I think around 40-60% of DCT regret is probably due to dudes "buying a car their wife can drive. " 15 -20 years ago when men were MEN, they happily bought the 5MT because it meant she wouldn't want to drive the sportscar. Of course back then if your wife was was a real WOMAN, she already knew how to drive a manual. |

Almost all of my cars to date were manual. I drove an M2 DCT in Thermal and upon return I decided to trade in my M240i MT, but wasn't sure if I wanted the MT or DCT. The dealer had a 2018 DCT arriving in three days and offered a good discount and fair value for my trade-in. I did not want to order and wait months for an MT, so I went for it. I like it a lot, but probably as long as I own it, will be pondering if I made the right choice...

Thanks all for the views
I owned once a E92 330 MT then same model automatic, really my decision to change gear box was based on driving MT turning into nightmare in traffic jam. But despite automatic was much more of a comfort, I lost the feeling getting straight power when pulling gaz ... now for the M2 DCT is of course quite direct in sport mode, and I feel more confident on track ... so for those who tested MT and DCT would you say its more straight power? |

Peculiar sad and sobering story: a friend of mine didn't take delivery of a 6MT and ordered an M3 M-DCT as he had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He also has an M2 M-DCT. He has driven many racebikes on circuits (hardcore biker freak) as long as he physically could. The day he 'felt numbness onsetting again' in the middle of a lap at Spa-Francorchamps he immediately pitted and asked pit folks to litterary lift him from his Ducati. "That day my racing ended", he said. He keeps buying fast cars to maximize driving joy opportunities as time is running out.

When I connect to ista for diagnose or coding in my DCT the transmission is signed by mechanic.
M2 in 2020 or similar will be the last M car with dct mech transmission. All this to say what: dct is a mechanic trans, the real regret will be after 2020 when all the M car will have 8/9 zf auto trasm..... So enjoy our m2 all with mech transmission, someone with leverage and someone with paddle! |

No regrets at all getting a manual. In fact if the M2 wasn't offered with a manual I wouldn't have got one. I hate auto transmissions in performance cars with a passion, not sure whether I have just had bad luck with them but they frustrate me and take from the enjoyment of driving.

DCT...
faster.... includes launch control.... much easier on the 405 or heavy traffic... still allows manual shifting of gears, just no 3rd pedal... |

On track I have no qualms with the manual, the pedals are placed reasonably well for heel-toe and when you are driving with enough aggression, the manual is easy to work with.
However, on the street, I find the manual to be pretty underwhelming. The way the shifter engages is a bit too notchy and borderline uncooperative if you don't use enough force. It's not as slick as your typical JDM gearbox (STI, Miata, S2000, ITR) and even my Camaro SS 1LE has a better shifter (albeit worse pedal placement). Getting the M2 to go into reverse is not an elegant affair either. Curious how a heavier knob would feel on the M2 but it's not as simple as spinning the stock one off and spinning a new one on.

6mt owner with zero regrets! Not sure how one can regret the manual in this car as it’s SO easy to drive. Buttery smooth shifting and light clutch feel.
To above: my GR STi was the notchiest piece of crap ever. The shifting was horrible. I had to buy a really heavy weighted knob just to get the damn thing into gear. |
