M Performance Exhaust on M2 CS - It's possible

Just saw 2 cars from South African dealer with M-Performance exhaust

Are these set up the same as US cars? I know Euro has communist like restrictions but wasn't sure on South African standards.

The Dealer said they have done 3 of these.

Anyone care to explain how this is possible there but not here?

This shot is from South Africa. The 30 cars going to SA were auctioned and plaqued (xx of 30). Perhaps BMW SA modified some of the cars to add some luster to the bidding process??

Someone from South Africa posted a while back about getting a M Performance exhaust on a M2C. I believe the cars there do not have the particulate filter. They are the same as USA cars.

It's not only possible but someone is actually doing it.

I was able to obtain the parts list used as well.

Who's going to try to do this first in USA?

What about the CS makes the M2C MPE incompatible without modifications? It makes no sense....

When I called my dealer to see they said the exhaust is incompatible yet here we see it being compatible.

I, like yourself, do not understand why it wouldn't work but thats what they're saying and I'm not about to fork over 4k+ on something that doesn't work.

MPE is available in the US on the CS (both as port install and at dealer). There is an older thread in the CS sub forum where we discussed this.
I believe a couple of us have it on the CS.

I haven't seen it in US. I'd love for you to be right because I want one.

I’m in Canada. Asked my dealership. They reached out to BMW Canada for support after I asked about getting one. Response they got was the CS already has what they referred to as the “M Sport Exhaust” and that there is no MPE available for the CS. Only the OG M2 and the Comp. Perhaps it will change, but as of now they claim there isn’t one for the CS and I don’t want to risk ordering one and being stuck with it if in fact it doesn’t fit. They want payment in full, non-returnable for special orders.

I have the MPE on my M2C, not my CS.

On BMW USA's website (link https://www.bmwusa.com/limited-editi...les/m2-cs.html), theres a photo with caption "The carbon fiber rear diffuser frames the M Sport exhaust system."

Seems like we have the M-Sport exhaust system. Confirming DocEye's response from BMW Canada. Guess its different from MPE?

Correct, the M-Sport is different from the MPE and the regular M2C exhaust (same story in the M3 CS vs Comp exhaust). The most obvious difference is the tips welded on to the muffler and not removable (and the tune is likely different too, at least it was for the M3CS). I don't think we know for sure yet if there is any additional internal difference in the exhaust construction compared to the Comp.

EDIT:
Some additional info here on the M3 side -
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=28

AFAIK the only Fxx series M car to come factory-equipped with an exhaust similar to the MPE was the M4 GTS (similar but all titanium).

The M sport exhaust is the stock comp exhaust with welded on tips and *possibly* some changes in the internals. It is not an MPE. There is really no reason the MPE wouldn't work unless the stock midpipe shape is different (but again that makes no sense).

My MPE on the F80 was also titanium and not steel. Is that not the case of the MPE for the M2?

Here you go.
Couple of pictures and a crappy phone sound-clip.

The clip is a cold start, settles in to base tone @ 00:27.
Unfortunately it was indoors and it's only in comfort mode. Car won't be driven during the winter months but I will try to get a sport and sport plus tone clip as well.

Sounds a tad louder than a 2018 F80 Comp with MPE already and I'd expect it to get noticeably louder after a few thousand miles.

PS - ignore the filters, was just having fun. The audio is unedited.

f80_MG Did you order the exhaust from a dealer or did you have it port installed?

Port installed. Saved a little in labor cost, didn't want to deal with selling the stock exhaust, and wanted the 4 yr warranty.
My M3 MPE was just replaced with V2 at year 3 and was glad to have that extended OE warranty.

Thanks f80_MG ! I really like the way it looks! I can't comment on the sound as I have nothing to compare to but I'm sure that's improved as well.
