Help! Best Intermediate Brake pads?

I've searched through many posts...still undecided on what pads to go with.

What's the best intermediate or aggressive street pad that doesn't make a ton of noise? I don't really care about dust. I'm looking for something harder than stock, but not a full race / track pad.

I carve canyons at high speeds frequently, and hope to track 2-3 times per year once COVID is behind us.

Really appreciate any advice or suggestions!

TIA.

Proper track pads are tough for daily use and changing pads takes but a few minutes and basic tools. You will not find a pad that is good for the street and track at the same time so compromises are significant. I run the Stoptech Street pad for daily use (they are quite good) and PFC 08 for track use. I cannot in good faith recommend a single pad for both.

I do have a buddy who runs Ferado 2500 and he has ok things to say about the street part but has been disappointed on track days.

Couple of tools and 30 mins before and after each track day and you can have a proper setup for each.

Good call out, thanks. I had a feeling I might have to go that route...are the Stoptech's you're running noisy? (I know most high performance pads can be)

Which version Stoptech are you running? Thanks so much!

I previously loved EBC yellowstuff on a different car, OEM bite from cold (Arguable better), zero noise, OEM dust levels, when getting hotter and hotter they don't fade and are reliable.

I'll put them on when my stocks need replacing.

I run Ferodo 2500's as my street pad then switch to their DS3.12's for serious track work.

If your looking for a pad that can handle track heat then the 2 pad combos I've used will both make noise coming to a stop. The Carbotech 12's and the Porterfield R4's. Not their 4S's. They both can handle a track day for most level drivers .

The best thing about them is they are easy on rotors when cold.

There isn't a pad I've tried thats got the proper heat range for track work thats quiet and or not abrasive on cold rotors.

Ferodo DS2500's on the street. DS1.11 on the track. (Or one of their other track compounds).

Nice thing about this combo is the compound is close enough that you do not need to do aggressive rebedding when swapping pads.

Additionally, I've found running DS2500's in the rear, and DS1.11's in the front, while on the track, provides a nice level of brake balance (with my driving) and they wear at about the same rate.

Another vote for PFC08 here. Good intermediate bite, no fade at all, and because they are an endurance pad they last a long time. I have 7 days on mine so far, and expect at least 3 more.

Far too noisy for street use, so I swap between the PFCs and OEM pads. No issues with rotors.

Ferodo DS2500 is a fantastic sport pad for the M2. For full track use it's going to be a bit iffy, particularly if the track you're running is hard on brakes, you're on sticky tires, or your car has more than stock power. They likely won't fade, but they'll burn up quickly under those conditions. You may be able to get away with the DS2500 on the track at stock power, street tires, and on an easy braking track.

On the road the Ferodo DS2500 is easy on discs, doesn't make hardly any noise, works well cold, and can also handle all the back road/canyon thrashing you want to throw at them without fading or having any problems. They're easy to bed-in, and they don't typically have many problems with judder or vibration. They last a fairly long time as well. Overall, they're an incredibly versatile pad that's easy to use, and our customers tend to really enjoy them.

I ran EBC yellows on my M240i for street and 4-5 track days per year. This is back when I didn't have a garage so having a single pad for both street and track was important to me even though I fully agree that there is no good street+track pad, it's one or the other.

I'm running the endless mx72 plus pads - they are amazing fast road and occasional track pads. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it for the level of braking they provide. Also, as they work on the principle of adhesion (rather than abrasion, as with most pads), the disc wear is very low for the stopping power they offer.

In my experience, there are street pads, more aggressive street pads, and track pads - period.

If you're a beginner driver (you say 2-3 events/year), an aggressive street pad may work for you if you don't overheat the brakes too much.

I'd recommend Hawk HPS pads. Higher coefficient of friction at higher temperature (400 F +) w/out the noise, wear, and low-temp poor performance of race pads. They are a GREAT street pad and can hold up to AutoX and mild track use.

Have you used the Hawk HPS pads? If so, how's the brake dust compared to stock pads? Got silver wheels and the amount of dust is crazy.

They still throw some dust, but it's probably 25% less than the factory pads

I'll take it lol. Plus you said should hold up well for autox. Might have to look into these.

Definite upgrade for street performance. I ran them on my M4 and now my M2. Better pedal feel than stock and great bite/torque under hard braking. Would probably stand up to a couple of HPDE track days at 7/10ths and beginner levels and then drive home.

Nice/stable over medium temperatures

For reference, a race pad (HT-60) I also attached the graph.

For the track, I prefer Pagid race pads or Perf Froction, as they seem to last longer than Hawks and are easier on the rotors. Someone mentioned PFC-08 which I like a lot!

I Used hawk hps back in 2013 on my e46 m3, these pads have absolutely no bite, no matter how much pressure you put on brake pedal, i kept them for around a week, tried to bed them but no success, it just doesn't brake, i removed them and sold them for dirt cheap like 20$

I had the same experience with HPS 5.0 on a Mazda. Horrible bite compared to OEM, really bad in cold / wet conditions. I replaced them with Raybestos EHT and it was like night and day.

I run the stop tech street for daily. They are very good, no noise and low dust.
