The M2 is standard M. Muscular front and rear with striking and unique aerodynamics.
The Secondary car is a slimmer variant of the Vision GT car more in tune with the width of the M235i Racing Car.
Thank you!!

The concept of a CSL/GTS is one of compromise: performance for comfort... A "regular" M would certainly be more suited to DD duty, with the CSL/GTS variant for more performance-minded customers who are more than willing to sacrifice some comfort. This is the way it should be; if there will indeed be a CSL/GTS version of this car, I sincerely hope we don't start seeing pleas for the standard fare of (heavy) creature comforts and DD-oriented sound deadening, chassis tuning and compliance. If they're going to do, let's give show them a unilateral appetite for them to really do it RIGHT.

I don't expect anyone to provide cost estimates to us at this point, but I would sure like some indication of whether it will be available in NA/US... which I would be willing to bet would be one the highest-demand markets.

Unfortunately, I think my wife will limit me to only one M2. I'll be happy with that though, trust me!

Also, cool that they're pursuing it, U.S or not, though obviously I'd rather they sell it here too!

This car will definitely be one of BMW's greatest if it comes to production. Light weight plus M power and performance will be tremendous. Looks great too! The widened body and quad exhaust are a good hint at the M3/4 but not as aggressive. Can't wait to see the final outcome!

I think it will be more aggressive, actually, just like how the M3/4 is more aggressive than the M6. I feel that the M3/4 will be more "business" like and the M2 will be more aggressive and less restrained in terms of styling.

Weight should drop from the M235i's 1,530 kg (3,373 lbs) to 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs) which should enable the M2 run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.4 seconds before topping out at an electronically-capped 155 mph (250 km/h) or more with an optional M Driver's Package.

Call me skeptical..
Some of these online rags have absolutely zero credibility. So the M2 "should" weigh as much as a base Cayman. Ok. That weight and expected hp would propel the M2 to 60 in under 4 seconds and through the traps as fast, if not faster than an M3/4.

And read the last sentence...."a rear drive layout could be optionally offered in select markets." What?

I think it was just a poorly written article. That 1400kg number was most likely meant for the M2 CSL model and the last sentence meant to say "an AWD layout....". Not that I believe either one....

Any word on the carbon fiber strut brace yet? Since it was already made to fit the m235i Racing Car I feel like the M2 is an obvious candidate for it!

Agreed - these are the questions I have as well.

The cost will probably be prohibitive, but it's nice to dream.

Statements like "lightweight" and "e30 M3" make me think this M2 variant could see a high-output I-4

You guys are funny with this engine-based weight savings. How much weight would you save with an I4 vs. an I6? Ten, twenty pounds? Significant weight reduction can only be achieved by using more lightweight components such as carbon fiber or completely re engineering the chassis, which may happen with nextgen buy not now....

Maybe they will go Spartan on the interior? No back seats, A/C delete, etc.

That wouldn't require the additional engineering required for the swaps you mention above...

Why not??

It is a small car and with smart use of aluminum and cfrp it can be done! It should not weigh more than 3200 lbs loaded. Take 228i as a starting point and add 15K for fancy material. You can get a slick car.

Makes perfect marketing sense! Anniversary or commemorative adds another fodder.

The S3 with its 4 banger is relatively light with its 3300lb curb weight.
