I understand the original pic looks like the S55 exhaust, and I apologize if this question is a little off topic and maybe not very intelligent. But could the piping and/or internal components of the exhaust, muffler system make it sound better?

Well, let's just keep it to saying that the M2 CS rumor popped up in The ///Matrix many months ago. And the rumor hasn't vanished ever since. Time will tell whether it's a glitch or for real.

For now, as BMW ain't giving lots of clues: believe what you want to believe.

I mean who gives a flying fook what's coming, I have the M2 it's everything it should be for me and if something comes along, like things always do, then so be it, you can wait and wait and wait, that special car may never come, and if it does whos to say it will be good..

As an example of how a company can go from amazing to dreadful In one fell swoop, then just take the fantastic mk2 golf gti to the dreadful mk3 gti, how could a company as big as VW take one of the best hot hatches ever and destroy it for years and years

Morale of the point; Don't wait for something that may never come or ever be as good.

My current 2014 335 is getting 12.1 l/100km...and that's basic city driving. no real hard stuff...well not a lot of hard stuff

4.1 l/100km...yeah...ok. I guess it's gonna be electric motors for everyone in EU, lol

The flip side of that is having a great product and doing no further innovation/r&d...and then watch the competition pass you by...let's not forget a little company called RIM (Blackberry). Had the world by the nuts in June of 2007 and then Jobs comes in and drops the iPhone. BAM! The beggining of the end...how many of you have a Blackberry in your pocket right now? Companies need to stay innovative/competitive or they risk losing share. The smart companies do this and stay efficient in the process (i.e. fewer engine platforms across similar models - hint, hint). Is every new product a raging success? Of course not. But better to try than to sit back and do nothing at all...for that is the easiest way to lose your customer to your competitors.

FYI, some of us aren't waiting for our M2 out of choice or because something better might be coming along (something better will ALWAYS come along)...there are only so many allocations out there. Myself...lucky #13 on my dealer's list...still 12 guys ahead of me...sigh.

Noticed there was a big bump up on the residuals of 2017 M2 leases in November (+4%) which wouldn't support the idea that they'll be making a substantial improvement on the base M2 in 2018.

Are you comparing November (MY16) to November (MY17)?

Still early in the MY for '17. Will likely go down as the MY progresses...does for other models.

No, comparing 2017 to 2017.

2016 has stayed mostly flat, didn't increase in November.

Sort of like a 911 and a 911 gts sitting side by side.

Keeps everyone happy and gives us more choice and selection. I would imagine the profits would increase as well.
They already have it. It's called the M4. There is no way they would put the S55 into the base M2. Would destroy the market for the M4.

I really don't get it when people just keep telling it'll destroy the market for an m4. The 330i and 530i have the same engine. So do the 340i and 540i. There is a market for both. Same with the 240i and 440i. People will always have other considerations.

Buyers could also switch from an m2 to an m4 because they are getting more for almost the same money.

I hope BMW puts the S55 in the base M2 and charges M4 MSRP. Win win for them as it seems people are willing to pay for it.

This debate of which engine is going to be in the new M2 is almost as bad as the presidential debates this year.. Tons of name calling and no actual facts

Then why have an M4 on offer?

Meanwhile I've been driving my "base N55" M2 since April 8th. You guys have fun waiting for next model or the one after that and arguing online.

Jk I will when a better version comes out. I'll make sure to find a buyer that's not part of all these threads just before the new one comes out.

I guess there wouldn't be a reason to offer the M4 anymore.

So they will probably discontinue the M4.

Or just not put an S55 in a M2!!!!

The real problem is where BMW has placed itself and there are a plethora of much MUCH better cars in the 90k price range then any BMW M car that has made its way into that category that calls itself the "ultimate driving machine."

The M2 is in a phenomenal category and has a real solid chance to make an impression that M had lacked for a long time giving in to the bean counters. But I'll say this...it has one hell of a wall to climb in that price range with some insane cars emerging. Gt350, c7, some may even argue the much cheaper focus RS. The competition has caught up and it's up to BMW M to respond now.

'95 e36 M3 ordered from factory

I have a RS3 which has been in production for 2015 and 2016 with an iron block 5 pot producing 270kw. For 2017 this will be replaced with an aluminium block engine producing 294kw and quite a bit lighter engine. So it's not without precedence for BMW to replace the engine in the M2 after a couple of years with something better. Bring on the S55!
The US did get the 3.0 in '95 with 240 HP and the 3.2 in '96, still limited to 240 HP, but with a little more torque.

With the M3 LCI already out with only cosmetic changes, I don't see them changing the engine on the M4. I also doubt they will change the engine on the M2 for LCI and it's sad the some people are speculating this from exhaust tips.

Also isn't the s55 a tuned N55 and if the M2's N55 is really a closed deck then doesn't that technically make it a detuned S55?
