who on here has tried the G87 and passed on it?
Wondering how many on here were considered the G87, test drove it, and were like NAH not for me.
if so why? |

I am one. Didn’t have the fun factor the F87s have.

I did. It was a brief drive and it felt good. Definitely felt softer than the F87 M2C (I'm also modified). Ultimately it didn't feel special enough for me to switch. Maybe on the competition version and if it has a manual.
Definitely not saying it was bad. I thought it looked good. Back looked a little goofy but that wasn't a huge deal to me. The seats are a huge upgrade. |

I rented one for a day, and biggest difference was the much more refined and comfortable ride. Felt more planted on the highway, but in the twisties it felt heavier and not as direct as my F87 (but I have KWV3's). I've had my F87 for just under 3 yrs, but if I was in the 5+ mark it definitely would have been a possibility. Just waiting on how the G87 CS turns out for now.

Friend of mine stopped by with his new Frozen Grey G87 on 20" TE37 Ultras and Valvetronic Exhaust lowered on KW HAS. Impressive ride but for me F87 is where it's at.

I spent about 45 minutes with a 6MT G87 all on backroads, and it's an impressive car. Much more comfortable than my M2C while still having huge grip. I could feel the weight and heft some but really only in tight, quick switchbacks. It felt like it could really stick the power down well like the other G8x cars too.
A few months later, I spent time on track at the Performance Center with a ZF8 M2 running in a group of fellow track rats, so four of us out there wringing these cars out. I was convinced to set the ZF8 in automatic mode, sport + or whatever the fastest shifting mode is called, and just drive the car. I was blown away at how perceptive it was at shifting, upshifting, downshifting, holding the current gear when needed, etc. It was a fun experience and the first time I've ever not shifted a car myself on track in many decades of experience. The car is a beast, and it was a great experience. Getting back into the F87 M2C, I felt home. I bought the car new, early allocation, took delivery in Sept 2018, 20k miles now. I love the seats far more than the G87 design (have that same G8x type design seat in my 2024 M340i, haven't tried the G8x carbon buckets yet); I like the torque curve of the S55 better than the S58 (when driving the 6MT) especially when cruising on the highway in 6th at ~65mph; having owned BMWs since the 70's, the M2C is still a full on connection to the past to me that I don't want to let go of (just sold my E90 M3 after 12 years -- chose to sell the M3 and keep the M2C as we're trying to get down to fewer cars). So for now, the M2C is staying put, but if I was in the market for a new M2, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the G87 (I don't care for the odd styling, but I don't see that from behind the wheel!).

You know, certain angles are OK but I took the comp out today for some gas and as I was walking back admiring the lines I think I'd regret switching to the G87...

For me there are a few items that keep me from looking at one.
1) Its Porky- Which will not be much of an issue for a street driven car, but for Solo 2 and Track driving its a factor! My 2020 weighs about 3375 with 1/2 tank of fuel (AG Battery, CF Sparco's, no back seat). 2) I Drive 8. I'm an analog guy, and I'm not a fan of this setup in the M2. 3) Styling, both inside and out- totally subjective, but I see too many angles and curves that don't flow together. What I do like: S58 S58 S58

I have zero interest in buying any performance car from BMW. Had my M2 for 5.5 years, its paid off, still fairly rare and I dont see many on the road.
The new M2 is more expensive, too big, heavier, and not as good looking IMO. Cons out weigh the pros for me. Also no European Delivery is being offered at all anymore. Last 2 BMW's I bought were via the ED program. I would never purchase a BMW any other way.

I went to the dealership to test drive a '19 M3 Competition MT, drove it, and then drove my '21 M2C. The M2C chassis reminded me so viscerally of my former '11 E90 ZCP that I had to have it.

Test drove both 6 speed and auto for the G87. The driving feel was noticeably different from my F87. The G87 felt even less connected to the road than the F87, but I did feel it was quicker than my M2C. At the end of the day, I didn't think it was enough of a difference to jump into the G87 at the moment. I also couldn't get over the looks of the G87. Wish they would update the headlight/taillight shape. We'll see if the slight changes rumored and/or the CS will be significant enough to make me want to jump. But for now, nah....

I briefly considered an G87 manual car to beat around on, but I decided against it. I can do that with the one I have now.
