Key Fob Doesn't Unlock/Lock or Start Car

Key fob will not lock or unlock the car. The car will only start when I place the fob on the steering column, but this works only intermittently.

I've tried using a second key fob, which has never been used before and has worked in the past.

Anyone know what's going on? I know it's not the battery in the fob because the second fob doesn't work either.

Why not get a new battery? When I had to replace mine, my second fob battery was dead as well. Easy thing to try.

My money is on fob battery. 2nd one is likely just dead too if it hasn’t been changed in 12-18 months or more. Easy enough to try replacing both first. Good luck.

Which car exactly, and what work has been done previously on it, if any?

Like mentioned above, second key fob is also likely dead.
