Gotten a few texts (that I thought were phishing) and now a letter from BMW Fremont about a safety recall service for the 2021, but the BMW recall site shows nothing. Anyone else getting pinged about a phantom safety recall? I’ll call them later to verify, but just wondering if anyone’s heard.

Also says you get a free “BMW gift” for attending? Seems strange.

I’m getting this as well for my 2020 from Fremont BMW as well. I don’t see any recalls for my car so thinking it’s just a way for their service department to get us in. I’m ignoring them.

The message I’ve gotten doesn’t say. Just mentions there is a special recall event, and early birds that book an appointment get a special gift.

I'm getting these as well. They're BS. Unfortunately, they're emailing, texting, and using normal mail. It's more promotion than actual work.
Not that they've done great work in the past for me, so I'd avoid them either way.

Got a text from the SA over the event as I did sign up. He stated its a "service campaign for programming so it will take a few hours".

EDIT: "It entitles removing the 3g network out of your telecommunication since 3G is now obsolete. This is actually not a recall, just a Service Campaign action so it does not deal with safety or the environment."

But the M2s do not have a 3g network. They came with a 4g. US BMWs model year 2016 annd above all have 4g.

Ah ok so it is that. If you’ve got any bimmercode tweaks this can wipe those out. This may also enable apple car play full screen as an option with bimmercode. My last service they asked if I wanted this done, I declined at the time.

Sounds like it would be what this post is discussing - after reading much of it I decided not to take the chance that they'd f my car up and keep it overnight (no coding, but sometimes they need a lot of time to sort of 'unbrick' it).

I've had this recall performed takes you to NBTEVO_Y22292l. It is regarding the comm module, but not a 3g/4g thing - something about it wasn't able to dial out on the 4G network for emergency calls because of some prior software anomaly, this corrects it.

The radio probably has CDMA/W-CDMA capability and the default for an SOS voice call was this mode. Remember that Voice-over-LTE didn't actually get implemented for a quite a while, most 4G phones completed voice calls over 3G for a few years until VoLTE was enabled by all carriers.

It does in fact enable full screen carplay to be codable via bimmercode. I'm on an older firmware and couldn't enable using bimmercode, but I successfully coded fullscreen carplay for a M2C via bimmercode that had gotten the update done.
