I thought it was only the buttons, but I just checked the paperwork .... Looks like the entire audio "head unit" was replaced, part # 61316832881. They're about $150.

Do you have the part numbers for the buttons? That would really help a lot of people out of warranty.

I need to do mine too, it’s starting to crack on the buttons I used frequently. 2021 with only 9k miles.

Yeah it's super annoying, but they might just be playing it off like the charge pipes.

Bought my 2020 M2C with 8k miles and all of the buttons had hairline cracks in them. After sending the info to the regional manager, my first local BMW dealer told me they would not cover the button replacement under warranty as this issue was caused by general "wear and tear" (they also said they've never seen the issue before). Went to a second BMW dealer near me and this dealer fixed the issue under warranty with no issues, and said they've seen that issue before (+ this is a much smaller BMW dealer than the first one). If one dealer refuses to fix the issue under warranty, my advice would be to reach out to other dealers as these buttons should be covered under the factory warranty.

Surprised to hear it's a dealer-to-dealer decision and that there's not a higher BMW corporate department involved. |

BMW CCA has an ombudsman program that might help with this if you get a denial (and are a club member). I've heard good things about them regarding older issues, would be worth a try. Should be more straightforward since this isn't a question of 'is it a warranty issue' but rather a policy issue of why some dealerships won't honor a warranty consistently (avoids the technical debates, just a policy issue).

now that mine is out of warranty - and #1 and #2 are cracked, again, - and was quoted $300+ to replacement - anyone find a good aftermarket source other than the AliExpress link above? Just checking.

Hi everyone.
My m2c is from May 2019 and currently has 89,000km (55,300mi) and for a few months I have noticed that I also have cracks on the radio buttons. Luckily they are very small, only on the 3 you can see much. The warranty has now expired, but I will still point it out at the next service and let's see what they offer me. Honestly, I don't like the idea of having the dashboard dismantled to replace that part, I'm afraid of the noise if something isn't reassembled properly. |

I had my buttons replaced yesterday under warranty. Replacement buttons are much less sticky. I think the spacing between the old buttons was too tight. Here was the before image.
My car has almost 25k miles. Always garaged. Parked in a parking garage at work so rarely parked in direct sunlight.
