Brake pads
I hate to make a post about brake pads but I have to. Took the calipers off of my girlfriends car to have them powder coated and I am having trouble finding someone that has front and rear matching ceramic pads in stock. I refuse to use the OEM pads as they give off a crazy amount of dust (yes I know they work well). Did my research and was told to order Centric posi quiet pads from bimmerworld, they don't have them in stock and said they cant get them anymore. Odered Akebono ceramic pads from buybrakes.com and they sent me both front and rears for a regular M2. Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction for matching front and rear pads that are IN stock and don't give off a crazy amount of dust. Thank you!

The pads you need are CarboTech 1521's. You'll need to CALL them.

I forgot to mention a few things about those pads.
First, I HATE the stock pads because I hate pads that eat rotors, dust like crazy, and are progressive (even when you don't push harder the car stops progressively harder as the pads heat up). I had the blue brakes first, and switched to Akebono's, which were vastly superior to the stock pads for a street car in every way and linear, not progressive. Unfortunately, the 2NH brake pads on the Comp are are too big for the machine at Akebono, so they won't be producing pads for them. I chose the next best option which was the 1521. Don't get me wrong, I like the 1521, but it's quite a bit more aggressive than the Akebono pad. It has more dust, which means it eats rotors faster, but it's still massively better than the stock pad. The good news is that you can do canyon runs with the 1521, something that isn't advised for the Akebono. The bad news is that you'll have a bit more dust. The other thing is that you'll want to remove the shims from the stock rear pads and fit them to the rear 1521's or you'll get noise. This is a simple matter, just use a heat gun and a tiny screwdriver on them and they'll come right off. |

I have the Porterfield R4S on the Aston. They are a street pad. Lovely feel, hardly any dust all, kind to rotors and no squeal. They do a set for M2C.

I have the 1521's on my car now and I'm 100% happy with them. FAR better pedal feel than with the grabby stock pads, and virtually zero dust.
If you do order and you're a BMWCCA member, be sure to tell Carbotech when ordering, there's a discount.. I don't remember how much. Anything is worth it.

I *thought* my quite reputable indy mechanic was going to give my rotors a light turn, but apparently he didn't understand that I wanted that done, and didn't. As a result I occasionally (but not always) experience some slight pedal pulsation. I ASSume that will fully go away over time - not a lot of miles on them yet.

This is not needed, and DO NOT BED THE PADS IN. They do not require it, and it can in fact damage them and cause issues with your rotors. All that is required is to be easy on them for a few hundred miles.

Well rats! I’m disappointed to read this. I’d been planning to switch over from the OEM pads to the Akebonos once I wear through my current set of OEM’s. But I do enjoy a good canyon run, so I guess I’ll stick with the OEM pads and all their dust. |

I also ran the R4 track pads but they don't last as long as some of the new options such as the Ferodo options, but were rotor friendly when cold so I used them on the street as well.
