Spring 2016 will bring with it a full US MSRP for the M2 vs. ED Invoice on an M3. If the difference in comparably equipped models is few thousand, I'm going the M3 route! Fake sound, ugly hood line, and mediocre steering be damned!

weight.
if it is not significantly lighter than the M3/4 there won't be much attraction for me. it will just be a lesser model, not a "different" model. |

It's not just the weigh though. When you jump from an M4 to 2er, the size difference is pretty massive (at least it feels that way, don't know how it is on paper). So the advantage will definitely go the M2 in that regards. They just need to gap the price enough between the M2 and a stripper M3 for me to jump ship.

I thought 3300 was a plausible stretch goal. I would consider at 3400. What will it really be? Probably closer to 3500 which will make it a head scratcher vs a slam dunk. |

No manual would kill it for me. I already dislike idrive and display so if they tack on more mandatory fluffy crap like mandatory EDC and no way to disable active sound and start stop might also kill it. No temp gauge would also hurt.

As for 3300, I don't think it'll happen. I think we'll be lucky to get 3400 IMO. Not sure where they'd cut the weight from the regular 2er. Even if we were lucky and got CF+Aluminum parts, those upgrades along with lighter wheels and suspension from the M3/4 is not going to equal 200 lbs IMHO. But like I said, 3400 lbs sounds fine to me. That's still a 250-300 lbs lighter car than my E92, and it feels like the size of an E46 M3. Sign me up! (as long as they don't make base price stupid like $55k+ or something).

I think >3400 will be a deal-killer for me, since I'm in a 135 right now at right around 3300. I can give up another 100 lb for the power and performance difference, but not if it is bloated.
Also, agree on the size, which is a huge factor (2er vs 4er). The day I test drove a 235, I also sat in a 435. No need to test drive that one, it just felt massive by comparison - way too big for my taste. Didn't go with the 235 either though, because it didn't feel like a real upgrade from the 135 (better in some ways, worse in others), so I decided to wait for the M2. If that is disappointing in any significant way, I'll just get a lightly used 135 and mod it heavily. Honestly though, I don't think we will be disappointed by the M2. I really don't. In fact, I think it will become THE BMW to have. I think it will outsell the M4. |

I think the M2 will do things that the 135i could never dream of, in terms of handling, even if it weighed 3400 lbs. If they can make the M2 even half as stiff and handle as good as an M4, that right there will be gold.

The Golf R may really sway some people from the M2? Maybe for the M235i it makes sense, but the M2?
They're like in totally different leagues.

The R is a really good car, but in a different league. Plus, it's still a Golf, so it's ugly (that really isn't a subjective opinion - it has been scientifically proven in peer-reviewed journals - it's iron-clad fact. Nobody buys a Golf Series for their looks). |
