Advice Requested - M2 brake replacement

Hello Brake experts,

I want to put in new brake pads for my M2 with the help of a friend. He is very handy and had done many brake jobs on Japanese cars. He doesn't know much about the BMW M2 but believe he can do it if I bring him all the required parts.

He said the brake disks/rotors usually can be cut and reused a few times during brake pads replacement. But the M2 comes with drilled rotors with many holes so they can't be cut. Is it true that new brake pads and rotors have to be replaced at the same time for the M2? Any other parts would be needed besides the pads and rotors?

Thanks in advance for you advice.

When you say "cut" do you mean turned?

If you just need new pads there should be no issues just dropping them on the current rotors as long as you bed them in properly.

I run track pads for the track (PFC 08 compound) and BMW stock pads for the street. I have done the swap 3 times alone this year with no issues.

Also pad changes are super easy on these cars. They are Brembo calipers with just 2 pins holding in the retaining clips and pads. No need to take the caliper off the rotor to do a pad swap.

For cut, I meant rotor resurface to make them smooth and even again. My friend said uneven rotor may resulted in vibration during breaking. It sounds like you swapped pads without resurfacing the rotors with no vibration issue.

Correct. But the trick it to bed the pads in really well. I bed the track pads in hard. Then swap back to street pads and I’ve had no vibration issues.

You do not cut slotted or drilled rotors. they are throw away.
