So after all that success do you guys think that after 10 years the F87 M2 and Comp and the upcoming CS can be recognised as future classics?
*my idea was that yes the F87 M2 will be future classics , as well they are the first generation M2s. :

Present classic, yes. Future classic, no.
A 6 year lifespan is just too long ('16-'21) even with the relatively lower production rate as compared to other modern Ms.

it's commonly known but worth noting here - the desirability of a 'classic' car is driven by the lust of the next generation when they come of age and have the buying power when a particular car becomes a classic
I worry that too many kids these days are less and less interested in cars period to make some of these arguments worthwhile

IT all depends on what you consider a "classic"
Most people would consider the first generation mustang a classic and that sold around half a million cars a year for the first three years of production. So i don't think "classic" status means the car has to be produced in small numbers. Don't get me wrong, the car would be worth a lot more if it was sold in limited numbers, but it would also cost a lot more new if it were. I dunno, i think the M2 has a leg up on being a future classic, primarily because despite it being a modern car with modern styling, it is deliberately an "old-school" vehicle when it comes to driving dynamics. So the car is already being sold to people based at least partially on nostalgia and nostalgia is after all, the thing that drives the classic car market. |

I think it will be, delivering high tier perfomance (4 sec car) with that visceral aural experience of the old school classic sound,
The push for electric cars is there in the industry, i just had the shuttle driver for my dealership tell me when he was picking me up a couple weeks ago, he worked in aerospace software solution, and he said they planning on having all cars, buses, vehicles electric that would speak with all the traffic lights and etc, and like a literal grid that these self driving cars go round in And if you see the trends , the intentions are there, these so called autonomous cars that they are trying to push you into, concept car that are zelf driving, its a joke to me, but they are serious Youll appreciate a car like M2 then, when you switch gears and hear cool burbles, growling in a street full of demolition man carbon credit nerfs, shocked to hear a wildman and his M2 grrrrrr |

I think people confuse "classic" and "collectible" a lot. I think all sports or sporty cars that have a following become classics. I think most M cars will be classics someday. Collectible...different story. I dont think the M2 will be a car that climbs in value someday. It was produced in high numbers and isnt particularly "special" in the sense that it carved out a new segment or had a historical impact on the automotive industry. The bottom line is...enjoy your car and dont worry about its future status. The M2 is a great drivers car. If it puts a smile on your face now...and in 25 years from now that's all that matters.

I think doubtful for the M2 or M2c.
Maybe for the CS if it’s limited production. |

As well , the e46 m3 can be considered as a future classic since it was a special car , the 85k pieces that was sold doesnt change that. As well the F87M2 had a production figures around 14K which again is just fine . The original E30M3 had more ! Ofc if you add the Competition and Cs etc it will be more , but they are different animals too. Each one is special. |

Whethers its considered a classic or not will probably depend on what high schools right now think about the car...they will be the buyers in 20-30yrs. Same way 90s high school kides all wanted a A80 supra. The A80 supra when it was being produced didn't sell well and was outperformed by the fd3 rx7 and nsx on the track. But today its considered a modern japanese classic by early millienials and late gen x'ers. |

I don't think so because I think the next gen m2 will do everything this generation m2 does with the exception of non digital gauges and DCT option. The g series m2 will still be rwd and 6 speed MT option, so what would make the F generation so special? Why is it unique in some way? Unless the G series car drives horribly.

Original M2, yes. M2 Competition, no.
The M2C will struggle to shake its flatulent-M3-with-gaudy-touches tag thanks to its mario mustache grille, floppy cow udder and chintzy wheels. However, the now discontinued OG manual in Mineral Grey, well... it will age like a fine Spanish rioja and keep tongues wagging well into our dystopian future that is soulless electric cars. |
