Possibly in the dystopian auto-pilot future we will be able to tell our grandchildren that, back in the heydays when automotive animals still spoke, grandpa had a blast from time to time.

To me, exhaust is a huge part of the overall experience!! I have +$80K to spend on a toy and the exhaust(to a lesser degree: color options) are holding me back from purchasing a 2020 M2C. On the other hand... a coyote motor'd mustang is one of the best sounding cars I have ever heard (imo) but there is no chance in hell I would ever drive/buy one. While exhaust isn't important enough to make me purchase a vehicle, it sure seems that it is important enough to deter me from purchasing a vehicle. In all honesty, the s55 sounds like I would already own a tuned M2C if they had an acceptable sound... the modded exhausts don't do it for me either I wish they did, because I want to love the car! You are right, that it sounds great inside the car... but with windows down and passing another car or a concrete median, one still hears his own car. For that kind of money I don't want to love 90% of my car and be embarrassed by 10%. But again, sound is in the ear of the beholder. P.S. A man's wife should have a great personality with a body and face to match... I guess I want the best of everything(perhaps im too picky) Give me the S55(6spd) with the N55 sound and I'm ready to roll! Going to pass on the S55 M2... on a short list for GT4!

Yeah, cold first morning start isn't the best but every start after it is. It's just not as on your face as the M2, which some people actually complained about. Some say the S55 sounds like a boat, yeah maybe one mean boat. It also sounds like a pissed off alligator when started and pulling out slowly. I like it. People need to stop watching YouTube clips and go drive one. |

I was in the same boat hated how the S55 sounded like on the m3/4 and I was coming off of a modded OG M2. BUT listening to M2C with Just AA midpipe completely changed my mind. So much I ended up buying one and took delivery just a few weeks ago. Very subjective but as for my taste Eissemann exhaust which to me gives it a more deeper tone paired with AA midpipe sounds very very good.

I have both an LCI M2 with an MPE and the M2C. While I agree that the M2 does sound fantastic on the outside, on the inside I actually prefer the M2C (ASD on) vs the M2 with MPE (ASD off) which is simply too loud as it hits a drony resonance at certain RPMs. That's why my fabspeed sports cat for the M2 has been collecting dust in my garage for the last year.

When i got into bmw-m webpage i may have missunderstood something but what BMW wanted to advertise the new M2 comp by saying these? Saying that the new M style mirrors shows that the new model is part of the M family . On the other hand , while i believe the N55 of the M2 which is actually not really an N55 (has a lot things not just M3/4 internals ) coolings etc, they didnt put the M seats , not even M style mirrors , and not a "real" M engine , although as i said before i thing the original M2 engine is more special since its only fitted on the OG M2 , and they spend time tuning etc instead of the easy and wrong solution "just throw the detuned S55 unit -why detuned? (M3/4 flagships) " . But the way nowadays they have turned the cars ads , makes the older models look like sh*t ! Even in the photo comparison they hide the M2 comp exhaust , and as well they make the og m2 look like an SUV a lot taller than the Competition! Is the M2 a non M car ? Why the advert this way? Dont missunderstand me im not salty on the competition model no one can say a word about the better performance .just the way ///Marketing is today. Artemis

I had thought and still hope that this is a community of adults who are expressing opinions and thoughts based on real experience. I think its safe to assume that one isn't basing exhaust sound experience on little computer speakers or headphones via youtube…
I don't own an m2 or m2c so there is no bias here. I have been a HUGE fan of all iterations of the m2 since I first learned of them when checking out the 2 series race car during a random dealership stop in 2017. Ive driven the M2C three times now, one I had for the weekend(friends with the dealership owners daughter) I was SOOOO ready to buy one. I had been first on the M2C list at 2 dealerships since January of 2018. I was one those guys who was checking the forums twice per day to see if a sound clip was released. I was disappointed when I saw/heard the first clip. But I said, "it cant be that bad IRL, its just cuz it was shot with a potato of an iPhone or something" I passed on my first allocation so that I could see and hear it in person. Once it arrived, I went to the dealer and got some light rev time, test drove one at another dealer and then was able to secure one for the weekend another time. Since then I have seen heard a few more... and it hasn't grown on me So much so that I am waiting for the next car... maybe the CS will be special enough for me to overlook the exhaust sound And if not, the GT4 certainly IS special enough to overlook so-so exhaust sound Much respect to u and your purchase, but please don't assume that people comment here with only YOUTUBE knowledge those people can stay over there and argue amongst themselves Happy driving!!@!! P.S. I am still jealous of anyone who has either of the M2's!!! Im picky and haven't found mine yet

I'm guessing you have a 6MT? I have the DCT and experience drone at around 2.5-3k which is luckily remedied by 7th gear. One of the unexpected benefits I must admit. I find most people complaining about drone on the MPE are manual owners.

That article was published before the release of the M2. I believe the engines (enhancements) are exactly the same though the M2 may have additional cooling, etc. http://www.bmwgroup-media.co.za/digi...X4_M40i_EN.pdf Section 4, even references the closed-deck design. The newly developed M Performance TwinPower Turbo in-line six-cylinder petrol engine for the new BMW X4 M40i combines high performance with exemplary fuel economy. Accordingly, the lightweight, thermodynamically optimised aluminium engine has been constructed with what is known as a closed-deck design. In this type of construction, the water jacket surrounding the cylinders is sealed at the top, which endows the crankcase with an exceptionally high degree of stiffness. BMW M3 and M4 engine components. The drive unit powering the new BMW X4 M40i is based upon the three-litre, in-line six-cylinder engine in the BMW X4 xDrive35i. In order to fulfil the exacting dynamic demands placed upon BMW M Performance vehicles in all respects, our development engineers have optimised the drive unit using a forged steel crankshaft in addition to components from the high-performance engine fitted to the BMW M3 and BMW M4, which were introduced in 2014. This is how, among other things, pistons with an adapted top ring, crankshaft bearings and high power spark plugs found their way from the six-cylinder in- line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology to the new BMW X4 M40i. I have received a lot of positive feedback as to the sound of my N55, some ask me if the exhaust is stock. I have also heard the M2C, yes the sound is different but not hideous. Just drive them like you stole them and dont sweat the little details.
