Guess I'm doing it wrong

I'm averaging right 21mpgs,and you're right; I'm aware I'm doing it wrong. Only 500 miles on the clock at the moment and I'm tap dancing in the car for the moment. But once that break-in service occurs, I'm sure I'll join the rest of you averaging in the teens.

No, you're actually doing the break in wrong. You need to vary speed, do the full range of RPM and not lug the car around at 2000 RPM on the highway. That won't do anything for the life of the engine.

Debatable. I want scientific data to prove that lugging it around at 2k rpms is going to negatively impact the engine over the long term.

BMW engineers aren't that bad at their job.

The Oregon pit stop, I enjoy it.
Sure, until you sit for 15 minutes for a 4 minute fuel stop, and have to have scratches buffed out because the fuel attendant leaned against your car with a big bundle of keys hanging off their belt or the attendant drops the fuel cap hard against the car. After living in Oregon for almost 20 years, I dream of the day when we can vote the "can't fuel your own car" law into oblivion.

I never had any problems getting fuel, but I can certainly see what you describe happening. If you need to get out and supervise the attendant you might as well pump it yourself. The lack of respect for peoples property, even at car dealers does seem to be increasing, not sure why?

No way! There is a law in Oregon which prevents you from fueling your own car?! That's crazy!

New Jersey also, last two states in the union to do this. The only time it doesn’t annoy me is when it’s 10 degrees outside or raining hard.

I haven’t had any really bad experiences in NJ, which also has this dumb law, but I’m pretty sure gas station attendants are getting minimum wage. It’s hard for most people to give a shit in a minimum wage job with no potential for advancement.

When I say tap dancing, that wasn't literal. I'm not crawling, or puttering around town at a constant rpm. I have a manual so it's impossible to drive the car without "varying" the rpms. But I'm pretty sure I haven't hit 5k on the tach either.

The manual say vary engine speed up to 5.5k or 5k rpm which I can't remember. Which would mean avoid constant rpm no?

Do not do constant revs. Drive at varying speeds and rpm. Highway driving all the time is less suited for the task. Do not floor the pedal (at all), do not exceed 5500rpms and don't go faster than 170km/h (105mph).

We have a lot of totally unattended gas stations here that take only debit/credit. I suppose it creates employment opportunities but seems pretty odd in this day and age.

Dear Swiss friend, I worry the consumption of my future M2C will be much higher than the M2... how much is really the consumption on our roads??? At 120km/h avg when you drive it quietly? Do u have a DCT or manual?
Thanks

Hi

I have a manual. First day was very spirited and no highway at all, only upside down across country. Consumption was 15-16l

Until brake-in service I had somwhat between 11.5 and 12l. After brake-in it went up again immediately to almost 14l and now stabilizing at around 12-12.5l.

12-12.5l is what I had with my E46 330Ci so I'm pretty happy with that

Haha

Same here... first tank 14mpg... manual too...

I'm not eco friendly ... that's why they say DCT is more efficient... I guess

At 580 miles right now, and may have done some spirited drives and may have done some hard accelerations and now feel bad that I am ruining the break in period

No no, no need to feel so bad if you didn't completely abuse it all day long. You shouldn't baby your car either.

The one and most important thing is to make sure that your oil temp is right on temp before you press the pedal.

I make sure the temp is on the second line before I push it

The Bugatti Veyron can go 90km (56miles) distance on a full tank 26 gallons. So about a 109l/100km or 2.15 miles to the gallon at 400km/h.

So expect every 12 minutes you have to stop to get gas. 14 mpg is pretty dang good, lol.
