Totally agree with this. I would never ever go back to owning a Corvette regardless how well it performs as my priorities go way beyond 0-60mph times. I have been around the performance car world too long. Porsche is way out pricing their 911. It has gone from salty to obscene what they feel they can charge. I was sick of it and after 30 years of 911 ownership, I am done. BMW is following the Porsche price point with the M3/M4 C/CS trying to keep it exclusive by price point. BMW makes every bit as good as a car as Porsche and they were priced just high enough to be a luxury item but not so high you feel you overpaid. The M2C loaded at $65k feels like a bargain in today's market so I know BMW can keep their other cars more in line. The M850i's are sitting on dealers lots because they are priced too high. Just because a enthusiast can afford $140k for a performance/weekend car doesn't mean they will. Usually people get affluent because they are smart.

Heh, its a crappy one! Made to race other crappy cars in the 24 hours of Lemons.

1976 Pontiac Sunbird, so even after we completely stripped it, once we added a cage it weighed about 3400 lbs. The engine is a 3.8L V6 with 105 hp (maybe a bit more since its very lightly modded) and revs to about 4200 RPM before it falls flat on its face. God bless American ingenuity am I right?

But the other side of things are that its rear wheel drive, it has a five speed manual transmission and no joke, it handles fantastic, maybe a little bit oversteery, but its slow enough you never feel like you can't catch it when it starts to rotate. The racing is legit endurance racing too, so each race I get around 3 hours of track time. And its a race not a track day, so no worries about me ever wiping out some poor dude on the ring. Nobody is driving anything without a cage and a fire suppression system and nobody's car realistically costs more than about 10 grand. I am not about ruining anyone's day and/or expensive street car!

Alright i'm gonna unhijack this thread now and shut up about my stupid car.

IMHO in the end BMW will only consider the M3/M4 price as reference for the M2 CS price positioning.

Dude, you are my hero!

I have wanted to do 24 Hours of Lemons soooooooo bad. I'm hoping to find a 1981 Toyota Corolla hatchback, in s*** brown, to spruce up and race in. Was my first car and my first taste of freedom. Leaky radiator meant pulling over on the side of the road every 50 miles or so to fill up with water, and turning the heat on full blast during the summer to prevent engine over heating.

Gonna be the star of the race!

I highly recommend the experience, everyone at the races are super cool and supportive of each other and the fact that its all done with a bit of a sense of irony means that any of the fanboying out and factionalism that's sometimes seen in the car community kind of gets squashed.

If you've got the mechanical know how and time, building your own car is undoubtedly the best way to go, but if you don't have the time and the skills, you could always try to rent a seat from another team for a race, people typically charge somewhere between 800 and a thousand dollars. Buying a used lemons car is also a possibility. Lemons racing in general is certainly not as cheap as the advertised "500 dollar race car" but by racing standards its still incredibly cheap for an event that both has good safety standards and also cares so much about everyone having a good time.

Also, 1981 Corolla sounds just about perfect. If you got one that made you blast the heat during the race that also had to pull over every 50 miles, you'd be right at home. I swear, the length and effort people at lemons go through to not fix their cars the correct way can be kind of astounding.

Underwhelmed for sure.

The biggest thing I noticed was after I got it back from the run in service. The car seemed to be 'jailbroken' after I got it back from the dealer. The car pulled harder than it ever had before.
Decided to go ahead and install the BM3 CS+ tune and hardly noticed any difference in performance...same thing when I went to the stg1 tune. :/
Currently 1500 miles on the OD.

If you have the slightest feeling of being underwhelmed with your M2C, do this:

BM3 stage 1 tune
Sticky tires (RE71 will do)
Go to local road course/racetrack
DSC off
Comfort Steering
Sport Throttle
If DCT, middle or top shift firmness (if top, be ready for the rear end to let you know - not in a bad way, but damn never had a car shift so hard it let me know in the rear with a tiny little kick)

If none of the above works, then you need to go to GT2/GT3/Viper ACR/C8 Vette/McLaren as your car

Sounds like motorcycle club racing in the twins or 250 classes....or just about any class really.

Well, I picked up the car a couple of days ago and I'm gonna have to put myself solidly in the "not underwhelmed" category.

The car is good, I've barely scratched the surface of the performance as i'm taking the engine break in pretty seriously, but even partial throttle pulls below 5K in sport plus have elicited a couple of "holy shit" mutterings under my breath. Especially in the higher gears.

Even driving the car around like an old lady though has been fun. I'm not the type of person to buy a new car every few years, so i'm used to much older tech and the M2 is easily the most luxurious car i've ever owned. Not just from a tech standpoint either. I'm very pleased with the ride/handling compromise, I was worried it would be too stiff, but it feels very compliant and like there's plenty of travel, in fact I was worried it wouldn't handle as well as my 350Z after driving it for a bit. Luckily that fear was banished the moment i took an offramp with a little bit of extra speed.

However, i feel like this thread is about the negatives, so here are my nit picks:

1. The steering. Its actually quite good, but all three modes seem to have very similar weighting. All 3 are much heavier than my friend's A3 i drove recently but even sport+ is lighter than the steering on my 350Z, which isn't really that heavy anyway. Plus Sport+ feels kind of artificial. This is probably the one place I can say without any hesitation that the 350Z beats the M2 Comp. That said, the steering feedback is still not as bad as i'd been led to believe. It's like a 7/10 overall. Totally livable and enjoyable, but not a high point on the car.

2. Rev matching/shifting. I'm not going to sit here and say I don't get any enjoyment from the car automatically matching revs, its a cool feature and very handy. But its already forming bad habits and I can't turn it off without going full TCS off. I love the feature, but i wish it were implemented a little better. The shift feel its self is soooo easy and low effort. It just feels incredibly smooth, but maybe a little less engaging than i'm used to in the Z car. Its still better overall though, in large part because the Z hangs revs really badly, which the M2 mercifully does not.

3. Its too loud on startup. Generally, i don't love how straight sixes sound anyway. The engine sounds in the M2 comp are mostly "ehhhh" but the obnoxious burbles in sport plus make up for this. I'm gonna annoy the shit out of people in sport plus. Fuck yeah. And like I said, i wasn't going to like any straight six sound that much anyway so this is more or less a wash. I did not buy this car for the sound. None of my cars sound good or have ever sounded good. This is apparently my curse in life, i can deal.

Thats it. Thats all the nits i can pick. I love just about everything else about the car.

The problem with the M2c is that it felt too similar to my old 2017 M2. I sold my M2c and was looking at the Supra , civic type r, until the c8 got my attention. Placed my deposit.

How is that a problem ? Of course the m2c will feel similar to the m2. Its supposed to be an upgrade over the m2 not a complete model replacement. But congrats on picking c8 next it's the best bang for the money

For those who had an OG M2, and now an M2C, how would you compare the steering between the two?

The lightness of our OG M2's steering is one of my few complaints - I agree that the Sport + can feel somewhat artificial in our F80, but Sport seems to be the happy medium for my tastes in the M3.

Given that the M2C's steering has multiple settings, perhaps there's enough weight there now...curious to hear what you guys think.

Feels very close to the F80 (which we also have) in sport with a bit better turn in/preciseness feel.

I now have around 250 miles on mine. I really don't get the steering comments yet, but maybe that is because I haven't been pushing it to even the 5000 rpm's yet. To me, the steering is exact, meaning that if I move the steering wheel, even in the smallest amount, the car responds to it. I read the other posts about the steering being too loose. I understand loose because my E92 was loose, but on the M2C, the steering has zero play in it, and because of the comments about steering play, that is what I most worried about before I got it.

I couldn't be happier.

My only negatives so far are the road noise is so loud on some roads, that I can not hear the exhaust, and the cow's udder bag is ugly and I really can't see why BMW didn't do better on that. Hoping that a new exhaust will solve that.

Oh, and the rear reflectors are a turn off also, at least on the HS color. The reflectors are another easy fix, but not sure about the legality of blacking out the reflectors yet. Getting ceramic tint Thursday so I can't wait for that.

Yeah i was also worried about the steering having play in it (you know the thread) and I agree, it doesn't. It feels tight and extremely accurate. My only complaint about it is lack of absolute feel in the road feedback department. It doesn't do that thing where its constantly giving you huge amounts of information about the road surface you're driving on. It still gives you a decent amount, but not nearly as much as most of the performance cars ive driven with a nice hydraulic system.

However, it still weights up really nicely and naturally in cornering, which is also part of "steering feel" so its not really fair to say that that's a weak point on the car. Its more like one aspect of steering feel.

The wet noodle steering that I percieve at high speeds is one of my peeves with the M2C.

There isn't another car I'd rather have right now but I'd rather have tighter steering at high speed in this one.

I think when people term the steering loose, it's not on turns, which it's very precise, but on straight highways. Mine is an OG M2, so not sure if that would make a difference. However the wheel does have a little float in it, meaning I can't hold it dead center, without moving it, to have it track absolutely straight.

In my last car, a 370z, I could hold the wheel on center, without the slightest adjustments and the car would track straight. It literally felt like it was on a straight railroad track. Could be hydraulic vs electronic, I don't know the reason why but it is noticeable. And please don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the M2 steering as I've had it over 2 years and would never swap it back for the Z. However this is one area where I feel the M2 could be improved on.

We've had the M2C for almost a year. From day one the steering has been laser straight on the highway, no drifting, no corrections needed, just nailed down pure straight tracking. It was one of the first impressions I had of the car since I bought it up north and drove it 800+ miles over the next two days. Having just put almost 600 miles of Interstate driving on it in the past few days, it's still the same -- laser straight, no wandering, no corrections needed. It's very impressive to me, about the best I've experienced in that regard, and I've been driving (and autox/track/time trials/instructing, etc) for far longer than I want to think about...i.e. 45 years.

The only situation I've noticed some funkiness with the EPS is when you're loaded up pretty well in a corner at speed (say 70mph), and you need to open up the lock to go around something in the road, and then dial it back in hard to regain your line. It needs some work in that situation as it's response is non-linear feeling compared to a nice HPS rack like in the E90 M3 which feels "pure" under the same conditions.

I wrote about my experiences with feel and feedback from my 1/2 mile skidpad event I did with it on day 3 in a thread here on the board (and in a Roundel article comparing it to my E90 M3 on the pad). TLDR: it provides decent steering wheel torque increase with increasing lateral loading and also decent feedback approaching, at and over the limits of the front tires. It might be a touch numb when you're right at/just over the peak of the tractive force vs slip angle chart, but it's manageable. All-in-all a much better situation for EPS than BMW's prior attempts imo.

I love mine. Not underwhelmed at all. It is my daily for 3 seasons. I have only done one track event and I am a novice. The brakes don't 'feel' all that powerful to me, but I was consistently overbraking during my day. That is driver experience for sure. Its a manual and have done no performance upgrades, nor do I plan to. My steering pref is Comfort.

Was underwhelmed with the upstairs power being stock, however now that I did AA mid-pipes and BM3 stage 1 and I'm loving the torque downstairs but still there still seems to be a little hp lacking upstairs, most likely need to do DP's and stage 2 to help that. The DCT makes the car feel faster than it is since it's like a slingshot when shifting (no lift shift feeling). The only gripe I have is the car is she doesn't feel consistent every time you nail the gas in multiple gears (tip-in power response), mostly 3rd and up as if there is a good bit of boost lag, etc.. All and all the tune wakes this car up big time. BTW interest someone mentioned a Viper, having a Gen 5 and will admit this thing is more of a razor while the Viper would be the ax, very different machines. The M2C is a hell of a great car, BMW did a great job with it.
