Is anyone underwelmed with their M2C?
So I actually pulled the trigger on the M2C but haven't taken delivery. I will on the 19th. Question - is anyone underwhelmed with the performance of their car? I watch reviews and no one is really GUSHING over it like the OG M2. I hear people talking about how tunes will wake it up and what not but without a tune what are your thoughts?

I think it's great and I certainly don't feel underwhelmed. Sure I could tune it for more power but I'm not going to add power for the sake of adding power. It's plenty fine for spirited runs. It's more about the entire package. If I cared about straighline speed I would be driving a muscle car. If I only cared about track performance then it would probably be a Lotus for me. But as far as a balanced performance car with daily drive utility, this one is going to be hard to beat.

Dating back to when the rumors, concepts and finally unveiling and release of the car came out...it was a long agonizing wait for the world to get their grubby hands on one! Now with the M2C...you can bundle up all those gushing reviews of the OG, add to that the improvements made to the car along with the new reviews...you still have the same winner! It just won't have that same impact as the initial release. These car journalists drive so many different types of vehicles all the time it's easy for them to lose that excitement I'm sure....unless it's something fresh and new. Not just an LCI or higher trim/spec level. If I didn't already have my OG M2 I would certainly get the M2C...its the only car in the BMW lineup that keeps me interested You won't be disappointed ! |

I think it's amazing. I'd say i'm still only using about 70% of the power and just finished break in service. It pulls very hard and the engine is silky smooth. I just don't need anymore power than this.
Like everything in life the car is a compromise though. Having owned an Elise and 911s with upgraded suspension the handling is not worth gushing over if you're uber critical on that point you might be disappointed. The nice thing is that i'm driving it every day in nasty weather, and not parking it until the next "track day". To me it's the perfect compromise of performance and 365 day drivability. I think the question is what's important to you as the consumer? Find an OG M2 on the market that you can take for spin. It's just an improvement on that car in a few areas. |

It's an awesome all round package. It would take a Porsche offering >= a 718 Cayman GTS to make me swap it out - significantly more money.

I mean if you're not happy with the power you can tune it to the M3 level or M3CS level or beyond for like $550. There is risk but not that much considering it's the exact same engine as the M3 and M3CS and we know BMW think the state of tune of those engines is safe, so it should be safe on the M2C.

As others have said, street / sports cars are all about compromise, not outright performance.
A point that you especially realise after owning a race car. Every sports car after that will never have the same level of power or grip. So you accept it, but also get to enjoy the aircon on hot days, the boot for the groceries, the back seats for the kids. Etc etc. I'm really excited for my M2C. Because for me it's the ultimate compromise for my lifestyle. Any car that has more performance than the M2C makes compromises in other areas that are more important than more power / grip. My 911 I recently sold was one of the most underwhelming cars I've ever owned. And I pined after one for 20 years. |

For me, it's weird...I previously posted something where I felt that my car feels slower than I remembered when I drove it in Europe.
Some explanations I got...gas quality difference, traffic, road size, in my head, just got used to the speed, etc. Regardless of the reasoning, the fact remains that I feel like it's slower...which consequently makes me feel underwhelmed. (I'm pretty sure that I'm in the minority on this though.) Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the car, but I just get more "fun-factor" feeling from driving my lil track built (but street legal) '94 civic hatchback. It's definitely not as fast and not as nice, but it's just so raw. I'm actually contemplating whether I should trade it in for something like a Porsche 718 or just sell it altogether. This was my mid-life crisis present for myself and I'm just not so sure if I love it enough to justify keeping it. Maybe I'll give the bm3 flash a try...IDK |

I did about 500 miles of driving in Germany post break in and definitely was as fun as any M3 or M4 I've driven out there, just in a smaller form factor. It definitely had a lot of power ready to go at any point all the way to the limiter.
I think the plus is the tuning potential when you do crave more power. The S55 has been out for quite some time and so has the current 2 series platform so the power delivery is pretty much expected out of it. Nothing groundbreaking here but still an enjoyable car. |

It’s a great all around package. I’d say it’s quick, but not scary at all. There’s enough sports car in it to keep me from getting bored, but I don’t feel bad using its full potential. I chose it over anything else for exactly these reasons. A tune would certainly spice things up a bit, but in my experience you’ll quickly get used to any level of power (short of a stripped out, full race car). My intention is to learn to drive it very well. Even master it within my own skill limits. Add some mods that appeal to me and enjoy it until I don’t. I’m definitely not underwhelmed. It’s exactly what I’d hoped it would be. The only other car I want is a GT3 Touring, but I’m not willing to burn money

I love mine, puts a smile on my face each time I drive it. We'll balance in terms of performance and size. Plus, for the price point it's hard to beat.
M3/4: more $, less less engaging to drive Cayman: way more $, no back seats My requirements were 1) liven up a boring commute 2) be able to fit my son comfortably in the back for our joyrides 😁3) have enough aftermarket support to keep me interested down the road |

Mine needs a tad of extra power:BM3 this spring?
And another exhaust definitely. But steering, chassis, LSD plus revving to 7600 and that enourmous torque. FWP A really enjoyable car, but not as a daily commuter (imho), because then a 225 /228 will do better. I don't commute with my M2C. Cheers Robin |

I was a little underwhelmed with the OG M2, M3, and M4 that I drove. They are good cars but they all lacked something special I felt in my Z4M. Maybe I need to find a true sports car. I'm still here - so I am still very interested, though.

I love my M2C but not as much as my E46 M3. The rawness of that car is one of a kind.

My ex E46 M3 6MT had rawness I agree, ex E90 M3 6MT not so much imo, 1M had it too but differently, OG M2 less, M2C even less than OG M2 to begin with, until you give it the beans. Then all of it seems to come together at once.
But oldskool, no. Cheers Robin |
