Permanently "stored" is only possible via DME ECU flash or alternatively using third party hardware modules (valve controllers).

iCar Pro and OBD.Maven
I decided Carly for BMW Pro is just too much trouble to get connected to their proprietary adapter (it hates Bluetooth on my Pixel 2), so I now use an iCar Pro adapter (about AUD30/USD20) and the OBD.Maven app (free from Play Store). That stated, this morning I got Carly for BMW connected by changing the Pixel 2 Settings>>System>>Advanced>>Developer options>>Bluetooth AVRCP set to 1.6 rather than the default 1.4. Worked flawlessly coding rear inner and outer LCI DRLs on.
The iCar Pro will connect using an Android or iOS smartphone/tablet and will use WiFi or Bluetooth. I use BT and it connects instantly. Moreover, I can add it as a trusted device to Smartlock .... meaning the connection stays live even if the phone's display is off. Opening the rear exhaust flapper actuator valve is a one click operation. No need to buy a dummy plug (BMW Part No. 18302411427) with the need to tie a piece of wire to hold the actuator in the open position once you have opened it electronically.

The flap will stay open for as long as you keep the app connected to the car. You can turn the car ignition off and it will stay open on this basis. But, if you leave the car with your phone and connection drops, the flap will close when you deactivate the canbus.

Bumping up this thread with another question...
Has anyone used the Burger Can Flap Module to keep the valves open? https://x-ph.com/bms-f-series-can-flap-module/ It looks super easy... just plug into OBDII port and all the settings are changed via the BC function on the turn signal. |

One easy way to keep the flap open is to do a BM3 tune and set the valve to be open in Sport modes but be normal in Efficient mode. You just press the mode button to open and close it.

Regarding everyone talking about how to keep them open. Yes unplug once open and your done. I don't leave them like that since I like having the option to close them if I want. Personally I get in the habit of pushing ignition on once with out foot on pedal then press M2 then press gas pedal to the floor. This forces exhaust to stay open on start up. I like gts roar :-) |

Some have said it times out after 15 minutes as well. I have an Akrapovic and I bought the CG VSC-2. 15-20 minute install, preset buttons (I did automatic for factory default settings and open), it's programmed to the home link for open and close control. The Akrapovic came with its own sound kit that was needlessly complex to install, involving full trunk interior disassembly and running wires through body grommets. Here is a multi page rabbit hole of discussion. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1099274 |

Has anyone noticed increased throttle/turbo lag keeping the valves open? I tried with Carly app leaving the exhaust flap open and I noticed more lag, I have to experiment more but maybe its in my head?

What I don't like is you have to leave it in the OBD port plus you loose steering wheel functions. |

I have not read a written rule or suggestion to do so, but I personally only open or close the valves at idle if not in automatic mode so there is no extra flow of exhaust hindering movement and possibly leading to premature valve failure.
If I am at speed I put it in neutral and let the revs drop to idle before activating the valves. Does anyone else do this? |
