I had all my stuff together when I was ready to buy. I didn't need the salesperson to so much as walk away from his desk. I already did my research as to exactly what I wanted and had competitive offers in writing. I didn't even need to talk about financing. I showed up on the last day of the month (and quarter, and year coincidentally (it was New Years Eve)). This relayed a clear message to the salesperson... I was ready to be closed and didn't need to be sold. We had a brief discussion over about $125 of dealer fees and we had a deal. He then passed me to an assistant write up my special order.

Moral of the story? Make it super quick and easy for the salesperson to get a sale and move on. This way they're more-willing to; and feel better about making a skinny deal.
Oh I understand sales plenty well - and how the prices of products are artificially higher than they need to be so we can pay people commission to “accessorize”...

I deal with it everyday in my professional life - the “eat what you kill” mentality and how it creates all sorts of problems for companies. But that’s another conversation.

The roof is a pretty useless option for most buyers at the moment when you need a few guys doing invasive work on the car and then have to pay them commensurately for the 10 hours+ work that they did....

Should have made it standard on the M2C and charge an extra...say 2k on top

Why don't you snag an M2 Comp at invoice towards the end of this month and have the roof swapped out. Like they say sales "money talks, bullshit walks"

Possibly. Do you really want that moonroof bad?

This is the same process for installing the Carbon Fiber Roof on a E46 M3. The grind wheel part makes no sense as the skin is just weld on. 96 spot welds and remove it. So realistically that is a off step to me based on the video.

If you take your time this is not that complex. The only lame part is taking the glass off out and that can crank in some cases. So the $3000 job just got up to 4-5K if both break.

The M Perf carbon roof or third party?

I read somewhere M Perf roof installed in EU countries after date xxxxx voids warranty or something?

Cheers

I've had the Alpha-N roof on my car for a while now. The neat part is that when it rains, without the metal roof, it's much quieter.

Cheers,
Sunny

I would assume that anything invasive like this done outside of BMW would void the warranty on all involved components. It is pretty stupid that they didn't offer this as an option at the point of sale. I would have definitely opted for it, as would most others I would imagine.

I would certainly not gonna get this done from dealer either unless installed from factory.
Common, they used at least 2 layers of tape?! That will protect against all manner of mayhem when using power tools!

Eventually I'll have a thread on my build. I'm just a bit preoccupied at the moment. I have the entire installation process documented in photos, and I've also got a timelapse. It took my shop about 2 weeks from start to finish. It took a lot longer because my original roof was not drilled through, and my roof can be welded back on should the CF roof didn't fit. I ended up cutting a piece of the roof (Letter/A4 sized) to keep for color matching, in case of accidents.

Cheers,
Sunny

Looking forward to that. I plan on doing this to mine at some point. Not soon, but maybe in the next couple of years.

maybe it's the graphic nature of the vid. kinda like life long meat eaters seeing how meat is processed from a living thing and turns them vegetarian?

the idea of a carbon roof is great but seeing the car get chopped to do it def makes you think of all that could go wrong

Now there’s a idea! I’d imagine you were about even after the Insurence?

Now I’m thinking 🤔 how to get the hail to hit only the top!

Hmmm. Maybe a hood and deck lid for the trifecta!
