AP Racing anchors

Who has AP Racing BBK and how do you like them? Pros/cons? Looking to pull the trigger on fronts and rears but they are a pretty penny. Seem to make more sense than Brembo’s BBK. AP is pure function (reduced unsprung mass). Brembo’s are big and badass looking but the research looks like they are not as efficient as the AP’s. Would like both camps to chime in!

I’ve had the AP Radi-cal setup on my M4, have them on my GT3RS, and plan on putting them on the ‘19 M2C if the stock brakes (plus pads/lines/fluid) can’t handle track duty.

I track my cars heavily and the AP Radi-cal setup is amazingly good. Spendy, but worth it if you’re hard on brakes. They will always be my “go-to” if they are available for my cars.

Nice! Thanks for the feedback. I hear they save a good amount of unsprung weight on the GT3. For the M2C it is 26lbs off the front! Crazy.

Please check out our blog...tons of customer reviews and feedback there, including a considerable amount from M2/M3/M4 owners!

https://www.essexparts.com/news-blog

Our kits aren't cheap, but they are a tremendous value. We've never had a customer tell us our kit wasn't worth what they paid for it. In almost all cases we're told that it was one of the best, if not the best, track mod they ever did to their car.

Also, feel free to ask any questions you may have, and thanks for your consideration.

I have the Essex designed AP Racing Radi-cal kits (9668 & 9449) on both my OG M2 & E92 M3 - both setups are absolutely awesome. I have no experience with Brembo so cannot comment there - I just know that to me the AP Racing kits are worth every penny. They have performed flawlessly so far - and the confidence they give you on the track is invaluable. The reduction in unsprung mass is noticeable and have not experienced any fade / performance decrease during a typical track session (< 30 min). I do not have brake ducts on either car (but will soon on the M3).

I run Ferodo 1.11 on the track & DS2500 on the street. I will be trying out the 3.12 on my E92 M3 after it's full race car build is complete & first dialed in on 1.11s. I have been happy with the 1.11 - this is just a see if the grass is greener kind of thing.

Awesome thanks! Is the brake feel different or the stopping power from OEM on the M2?

I had very little seat time with the M2 from the time it was delivered until the AP's went on (maybe 10 miles) - so I didn't get a good read on the brake feel of the oem setup. Until the grip level of the tires is greater than the stopping power of the oem brakes you shouldn't really see an improvement in stopping power. I am honestly not sure at what point that is - I have never tracked anything higher than 100tw tires on either car without the AP's being on (Hoosier R7 being the most common). The main thing I am looking for in the kit is the consistency and fade resistance. I want to know that the braking performance is going to be the same at each point lap after lap. All the other benefits - durability, weight, pads, etc - just push it over the top for me.

On the E92 M3 I could tell a difference in the brake feel vs the oem w/track pads. Definitely need to be smoother with the AP & 1.11s. The transition time happened pretty quickly though & much prefer the feel of the AP. Not sure if this translates to the M2 but would suspect it does. Pad characteristics will also make a difference here as well.

I just picked up the AP kit as well. Decided I didn’t want to mess around with the factory brakes and just go with what I know will work for my driving style.

Will have install pics and a review soon. Along with a review for my new Nitron R3 coilovers.

Hi all,
I've just put a review in the Brakes section on my experience buying AP brakes through Jeff at Essex Parts. These kits are a no-brainer for a keen track day enthusiast in my opinion if you have the cash.

I did 4 track days this year on DS1.11s with the APs and yesterday did a track day at Spa on DSUNOs. For me I found the DSUNOs were far more capable pads: still massively strong under braking, but far easier to modulate that the DS1.11s. I found the DS1.11s would bite too quickly where as the DSUNOs are far more progressive. This made it easier to let the foot off the brake before turning in to corners. I will definitely give the DS3.12s a go next to see how they are.

Yup, front and rears.

Just need to find time to get them on the car. M2 was resting while I wrapped up track season.
