Paint protection film is it worth it?

Threw together a video on what my view is on this. Hopefully it helps those trying to decide.

I made Suntek on my M2 CS
modern water-based paints are of poor quality, especially those of M2, a protective film is essential I regret not having done it on M2 OG

If you track your car, drive on highway a lot, or value your car a lot. Definitely.

My previous M2C had full front wrap only. My CS now is fully XPel wrapped and Ceramic coated. It was expensive but so glad I did it as I don't have to worry about minor abrasions and it's easier to keep clean

I was really against getting ppf and only going to do ceramic coat. I then decided to add the front bumper. I've now progressed to full front and rockers plus the full ceramic. I think this is a nice balance. Including window tint gets me all in for paint correction/protection for under $5k. I've still got about $500 left in budget to add a bit more. Not sure if I should do the roof or rear bumper.

Nothing beats PPF on these cars. This paint is the most fragile I've owned on any modern car.

If you've just spent several thousand on having it applied, I'm guessing the answer is always going to be yes?

Did PPF (always do ceramic coating) for the first time and track my car...it's only worth it if you plan on keeping your car and you're not leasing, etc. I had planned on keeping my M2C for a while until my dealer called with an allocation for the M2 CS...now I have to do it all over again.

Waited 3mo last time, and that was after the car sat on a dealer lot in Boston for at least 6mo. Had some damage that was permanent. A lease, so just paint correction. No ppf or ceramic.

M2CS we are trying to coordinate as soon after delivery as possible.

Whos doing yours Dave? Im just up the road from you.

Has anyone thought of doing a "custom color" wrap for their CS as another option?

Cmcdetail Michael does great work. He has another guy he works with that does the tinting and PPF. The PPF jobs look superb. I won't even shop around because of his integrity and quality of work.

Back in 2011 for my M3, took delivery, drove across the street and dropped off for PPF application the next day.

For the CS, will do so within a day or so depending on delivery date/PPF appointment. In other words, right away.

It took me 5 weeks to get in to get the PPF done. Was fortunate that it was still during the break in period so was driving like a granny

This ^^^. My last four cars have been wrapped head to do with XPEL Ultimate Plus. And on my last car I added ceramic coating. For the M2 CS, it's a no brainer -- full PPF with ceramic coating.

Great stuff....thanks! I am still debating whether to do this. My local guy uses Xpel.

Same! I've done XPEL PPF + Ceramic delivered unwashed, unprepared and in shipping wrap from dealer to detailer on my M3 and X7 and will be doing the same on the M2 CS.

Not full body, just full hood, fenders, bumper, headlamps, A pillar, forward quarter roof, rocker panels, and bits along the trunk, gas cap, B pillars, etc. Will likely do full carbon roof this go around.

PPF is a great investment for the next owner of your car!

I just bought an RS4 that was wrapped for 13 years. Pulling it off to reveal almost new headlights and paint underneath was very nice. Shame the previous owner couldn't enjoy the car in that condition since it was yellowing and faded.

My M2 was also wrapped, but you could see where it was applied (white car, black dirt). Hated it, removed it, and would rather risk a few rock chips. Sorry, next owner...guess I'm in the minority on this one.

My M3 was the first car I ever did PPF on..I will never own another car without it. yes, it's expensive, but if you're at all particular about your cars, it is the singular most important thing you can do to conserve your paint for yourself, not for the next guy.

I cannot stand seeing new rock chips, dings, or anything that lowers the aesthetic of a car. Then there is the added benefit of super easy washing/drying.

I had my M3 PPF and coated nearly 3 years ago now, and if you see it now in sunshine, there isn't a swirl in the paint underneath from the paint correction they did. It makes the car looks better.

That said, since it was my first foray into PPF. I did the front clip first, only to start finding some other minor rock chips in other places, so I moved to basically covering the full car.

My new M2 CS will be drop shipped to my detailer/PPF team from the dealership for a full wrap/coating out the gate.

I agree with this comment. My experience with bmw paint is that it chips very easily. Our M135i with no PPF @ 73k km's looks like its going through puberty. On the M2C, we have ppf and i've had large debris hit my bumper and was only able to damage the ppf. I believe a major consideration on whether it is worth it or not is if you live or will drive in an area where road debris is abundant and whether or not you are OCD about your car and its condition.
