I think at least part of it is that these cars are relatively rare and a lot of them went to continental Europe where English isn't the first language people are going to use.

People were excited when the cars came out, but the reality is that there just aren't that many owners.

I’ve been highly engaged on a variety of car forums for the better part of two decades, both as a poster and moderator. My anecdotal thesis: when moderators over moderate and categorically shut down trolling, differing opinions, a-hole posters, etc. it slows the volume dramatically. It reduces both the good and bad content. That coupled with a maturation and saturation leads to reduced forum participation.

I’m brand new to this forum (although lurking for months), so I’ll leave that for for you guys to debate. But this place seems almost too nice. Hehe

And I’ll offer this as well. Combining the M2, M2C, and M2CS subforums would help. I understand during their infancy keeping them separate, but as they mature and activity drops pulling them together is an option for engagement.

Them's fightin' words!

But yeah, I agree they should be grouped together.

I would agree. I have been on this forum for a few years now. (M2 as of January 2018) There was a ton of activity, but as others have stated the vehicle is at the end of its cycle, and COVID might have impacted the involvement on forums lately. TBH as others have stated as well I personally have read through numerous forum chats, and know exactly what the capabilites of the vehicle are. I have done just about everything I needed to the vehicle that I wanted (Turbo Upgrades, HPFP, Methanol, etc.) and just enjoying at the moment. I am going to be moving onto another platform. good news is I am at least keeping this vehicle and will be continuing adding to the garage so I can cherish the fun I have with the M2.

The vaults are loaded with information on a wide range of M2 topics.

A flexible and indulgent approach is adopted over here in Bimmerpost M2 Land. Discussions can be spirited, even abrasive. Agree to disagree.

But those intoxicating the good atmosphere of respect and camaraderie with vicious behavior, name-calling, racism, repeated trolling and the like, usually get 'retired' (as Rick Deckard would say) from Bimmerpost.

And rightly so! If we want all if that nastiness, all we have to do is flip on cable news or Facebook. Bimmerpost should be about Bimmers.

M2 forum is refreshing for its civility and support for one another. Cheering fellow owners on for their new purchases or personalizing their vehicles with their mods...I enjoy the art of it.

There is a reason I don't have Facebook, Twitter, other social media. It's toxic. I rather like this little corner of the internet.

Also noticed the forums being dead unfortunately.

I remember when I bought and used an E90 back in 2014 something and headed into the E90 forum on here it was still so lively and full of knowledge to gain.
In Jan 2017 I picked up a F36 and already before I was looking into the F3x forums, felt so dead and empty compared to The E9x forum.
Now on here it is even more dead incl the F2x forum that our cars are based on.

I unfortunately think that Facebook groups etc are taking over, I mean there are quite many groups for every model. However, if so there's a major drawback meaning the knowledge is split up in so many places leading people not finding it and not being able to keep it easily reachable..

Exactly this, with the election cycle, politicization of the pandemic, and overall social media polarization (go watch social dilemma, no seriously - you need to) I am enjoying this piece of internet heaven we have carved out here.

I purchased my M2 on Friday (used 2018 M2 MG, Exec) and am enjoying the plethora of information available to me as I continue to develop my budget and first needs as a new owner.

I would certainly enjoy some more interaction, but I'm getting some!

It's an 'old' car, you can't even buy one new.

Track, maintenance and technical topics all have their own little dedicated section.

New discussions are now heavily weighted over at the CS section because people can talk about colours, specs, price, availability, delivery time frame, test reviews, seat of the pants comparison etc...

I foresee that in a few years the traffic here would be even less as most 2nd or 3rd owners whom are performance oriented would go for the Comp because of the tunability of the S55.

The demographic that was drawn to the M2 OG because of looks, badge, 'latest and the greatest' are no longer active on this forum.

Many in this thread have already hit on what I was thinking:

1) The cars are relatively rare:
* F80 M3 had 17K units in USA/Canada (couldn't find M4)
* E9x M3 had 25.7K in USA/Canada
* OG M2 has 7K N55,
* 1.5K for M2C MY2019 into the US, maybe another 3K for 2020 and 2021? 4.5K total for the M2C and 11.5K total M2s?

2) The search button is powerful. I rarely have to post because everyone here has been so awesome with all their collective knowledge in the past.

I’ve had my N55 OG M2 for 3 years.

It remains a good car, no creaks, fun to drive.

I’m much less active on this forum than i am on the one of the car I hope to move up to.

I have been a member for three years and noticed there is less activity for some of the threads. I often wonder where people who used to post regularly have moved on to. Some of them were very interesting. I wish they would post on what they have moved on to. I have been thinking of moving on myself. Possibly the new Vette or GT4. Who knows what tommorow brings.

Most of the people I know who used to have OG M2's and have since moved on have gotten M2C's or have jumped ship and gone to P cars (one friend got a 997C and one got a 981 GT4).

Personally, I don't think I'd be able to get anything that sounds as good and drives as well for similar money so it doesn't make sense for me to move on. Also I love this car, so if it ain't broke why fix it?

I don’t think most have moved on. Definitely some have. I like you see no reason to move away from my M2. I plan on keeping this car 10 years or so.

Sorry I phrased that incorrectly, what I meant was "those that have moved on have moved on to..."

I agree, I think many have stayed the course. It's a great car and hard to beat for the money.

That being said, I think part of the reason I love it so much is that it's a second car for me, not a DD. If I was put in a position where I had to go from 2 cars to 1, I wouldn't keep the M2. The roads here are horrible and it's too small and loud for daily use IMO. Also I care about it too much, almost to a fault. It's not the kind of car I want to put in a tight parking space, leave on the street overnight, or take a cross country road trip in. Driving my F30 is so much more relaxing. It can get a scuff or scratch and I really don't care at all. I can also drive into potholes without lifting my ass off the seat whilst saying four hail mary's, waiting to see if the TPMS light goes off. Again, I love the M2 but it just isn't the most practical car in the world, and that makes it a luxury not a necessity for me. In spite of that, I still hope I get to keep it forever
