Upgrade or Wait?
So the new BMW G80 and G82 (M3/M4) is set to officially be released very soon. Anyone upgrading to the new M3/M4?
On the other hand, would you consider holding off for a few years until the new G87 M2? Just curious to hear what current M2 owners thoughts, comments, and opinions! |

The G87 seems like a much more attractive option. I showed my wife the new M3/M4 and she thought they were hideously ugly. I’m just getting my M2 in the first place, so there was no intention to shift my order anyway, but I have to imagine that her opinion on the appearance is not unique. I presume the front will be dramatically restyled after a few years.

I wish I could comment on the new M3/4, but the mods there banned me simply for posting a gif. I like the new M3/4 profile and rear, but they look absolutely moronic in front. Don't get me started on those grilles. The leaked interior pics look like a children's play ground. No idea what those jokers were thinking when they designed them, or how it even got the final design approval. This makes me nervous that they might carry over some of the same design elements of the G80/2 over to the G87.
The problem with waiting for the G87 without anything to hold you over in the meantime (not sure of your circumstances) is that is a ways off. It doesn't go into production until Dec of 2022 and we probably won't see any hit the streets until January 2023 at the earliest. Then there's the multitude of other thoughts that always comes up when a new car finally arrives. Do I really want a first model year? When will the Competition model be released? When does the LCI come out? What if the LCI has a significant bump in performance; maybe I should hold out a bit longer? IMO get something now, even if it's not the M2c and wait until the time is right for you to make a move. |

It's the size, wheel base, potential weight, grand tourer centric and drive train (unless you get the RWD 6MT). After a playful and raw car like the M2, for me, it's impossible to go that route. It's not an upgrade in any sense unfortunately. |

Car will be fully paid next year. It's really hard to tell myself not to upgrade now to a 2021 M2C and instead wait to see what the new M3/M2 will actually look like in person.

I bought an M2 because the M3/M4 were way to big. The new M3/M4 are even bigger and uglier. I am happy to just hold onto my M2.

I'm going to keep my 2017 M2.
Does everything I want. Plus I can spend a pretty good chunk of change on modifications for the price difference!!

Hard HARD pass on the new m3/4. As others have said, side and rears look good, but that front end....needs to go, bad.
Leak: https://jalopnik.com/the-new-2021-bm...you-1845139996 Looks like I'll be taking the F87 to my grave, and that isn't a bad thing at all. |

Probably just going to keep the M2, but if I were to upgrade to a sedan, I'm interested in the upcoming Cadillac CT4 or CT5 Blackwings. I think the regular CT4 and CT5 look good and think the G8X is too damn ugly.

Terrible that the moderators are banning people for not liking the new M3/M4 styling. I also think the design is quite poor and glad I have an F87.

Personally I don't like the G80 M3 / G82 M4 dish. Can't see myself ordering it. At best, full black to obscure a little some questionable design choices. But still: too big, too bloated and design-wise too polarizing for my taste. Trying too hard to change for the sake of change, as if it's like an e-mail written in capital letters only (those get me a cringey feeling and "chill, brother/sister" thoughts). Forcing customers out of their familiar comfort zone: remember Microsoft radically redesigning its Windows user interface with Windows 8 (including the 'sacrilege' of deleting the iconic 'start menu') or Porsche going 4-cyl only with lawnmower sounds on its 718 Cayman: many dissatisfied/disgruntled existing and potential customers + fixing this with a later iteration. Sometimes too much is too much. And regarding design: car manufacturers should never forget 'the family factor': show pictures to your significant other or kids and ask for their opinion to test the waters. I also did that with the G80 M3 / G82 M4 and the response was outright negative. Quite a difference compared to their reaction to pictures of an F87 M2 or F87 M2 Competition.

The problem with the M2 is it has basically ruined every other car out there for me.
Definitely interested in what the next gen M2 offers but I'm more than happy to keep my F87.

It depends on your timeline. The G87 M2 is what, 2.5 years away? I wont buy the first year so it puts the next M2 about 3.5 years away for me. I may do that as mine is a 2020 M2C, and also I will have no need for 4 doors or a bigger car then either.
But if my timeline was shorter and I needed a bigger car, then an M3/4 it is. Just not my cup of tea. So, it all depends And I agree with AlBundysDodge. The M2 has ruined every car for me. I've driven an M8, M5, etc since my M2, and I just simply crave my M2. Its a wonderful lil beast |

Good lord, it's hideous and as with the F80/F82 too big. I think the F80 M3 is terrific looking and while I didn't like the 2015 model I had, the M4 CS I recently drove was superb.
If I understand correctly the curb weight jumped up quite a bit too? That was at least something the F80/F82 impressed with compared to the prior gen E90/E92. Curious to see the next-gen M2 but very happy with mine right now, even considered getting a 2021 so I can have a new M2 for as long as possible...
