They are both great cars. I hated the new grille at first but compared to the other atrocities BMW released since then they are actually tolerable. I don't mind the more aggressive lower end of the bumper. What I really couldn't live with is the sound (fixable with equal length mid pipes), the cow udder (again fixable with aftermarket), and the wheels (also fixable).
The only thing I would really like from the M2C are the seats. Other than that I actually prefer the pre-LCI lights and interior. When I replaced my tail lights (to have amber turn signals) I intentionally went with pre-LCI again because I like the shape better. |

But maybe that’s just me. Also the sound is really not that bad stock... and sounds way better then any n55 I’ve heard with the Akrapovic evolution installed(to include akra n55s) |

And if you like the sound then you're very lucky, and quite in the minority, regardless of what exhaust it has. I WANTED to like the M2C, really, really badly, but with the increased price, increased weight, ugly wheels, increased maintenance, no crank-hub fix, and impossible to fix bad sound, it just wasn't in the cards. I wish they would have made the M2CS out of the OG M2, and just made it a lot lighter instead of heavier and more power. But alas, it's the American way. |

Regardless of a posted torque curve or someone's dyno. The S55 starts putting down power low and it never seems to end. The absolute linear power to redline of the M2C is insane. And anyone complaining about the ugly exhaust....yeah it's big, but so was the exhaust can on my e92 M3. One can of paint and it's gone.

"am I the only one who likes the pre-competition M2?"
Absolutely not! I love them. In fact I loved them enough to almost buy one. I just love the M2C a little bit more. Mostly because of that engine with its higher revving nature. Does the S55 sound bad? Yup. It sounds pretty, pretty bad. But IMHO the N55 sounds....alright. It's 4/10 jumping to 6/10 to my ears. A definite positive difference but ultimately, to me, they both occupy opposite ends of "mediocre." Regardless of sound, both cars kick ass. We're splitting hairs here. I'd take either in a heartbeat over 99 percent of cars on the road. |

I test drove the OG M2 and M2C back to back prior to settling down to the M2C. However, I do like both and I would've been happy with either.
Exhaust, prefer OG but do not hate M2C. Cow Udder is a negative for M2C Looks, stock for stock, I prefer the front and the various blacked out M2C and side mirrors. In the end, I prefer the M2C's looks and I did find the seat nicer, along with other small factor. I was never really going to modify the car. So out of the factory, there was more boxes ticked for me than the OG M2. Reading the conversation, I think people are getting so religious about it. I concluded that I'm in the minority, so I'll hide in the corner and enjoy driving it. |

I mean...posting this thread on the OG M2 forum is like going to the PETA forum and asking AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HATES MEAT?!!
Selection bias ftw... |

In the end we all know that they are the same damn car with just slight differences, but it's fun to argue about which you chose and for what reason.

At the end of the day, the differences are pretty minimal in the grand scheme. If you have an OG M2 I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to the M2C. The performance difference isn’t significant enough to warrant the price, especially if you are factoring in depreciation. The same reason why I wouldn’t ever go to the M2 CS from the M2C. It’s just too close for the price difference.
At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. Do you want to have 98% of the same performance and want to save a few bucks on a used M2? I think you have your answer. Want a new car with slightly better performance that costs more? M2C. Want a M2 variant that costs a lot more but comes with some cool carbon fiber bits? M2 CS. Really, no matter the choice you can’t go wrong. Hell, even the regular 2 series offers a really compelling package. I came from a M235i coupe, that was a fantastic car. The only car I’m leaving out is the new 4 door M235i. After having that as a loaner, that is definitely BMW doing it wrong. |

Cosmetically, the front end of the M2C is more attractive for me personally.
The icon headlights are a must tho. Of course, looks are a subjective topic and everyone has their own taste, if we all had the same taste then every single car on the road would be identical

Anyways the m2c is a better value then m2 in every way shape and form. That was my point. I can’t speak for used sales as I’ve never bought or looked for a used car, but maybe the OG shines there. At least when under 5krpm or so lol |

I know stage 1 is more power than stock m3, but it's like if an m2c's s55 was making as much power as the motor did when it originally came out, how modified is that really? Any way you slice it the m2 with the s55 and it's cooling system is making a lot more power and doing it consistently because it stays cool. |
