Carbon ceramics.. from gold to red, a half-day journey
For those of you who are like me and don't like the color gold, within the first 24 hours of owning my CS I decided to get rid of it.
It may look like steel brakes to the naked eye... but a closer look will reveal red calipered carbon ceramics, even went through the effort of putting the M logo on there properly... I'm super happy with how it turned out! |

Cool! I've been thinking about painting my og m2 brake calipers a different color. What were the steps you took? How's you go about the mperf logo?

Also curious what brand paint you used? I just got a quote for $400 but my local metal works shop can do it for $100 if I provide the paint and break them down myself.

I’m also not a fan of the gold paint on the CCB’s. I think your calipers turned out great! I much prefer the red because it goes with the ///M logo-stripes, the deviated stitching in the cabin and also the brake lights. Very nice job!

Thanks for all the questions, I should have been more clear, I didn't do this work myself, I had the work done. I use a guy in SoCal who's extremely well know, and is an absolute master at his craft.
He's been doing it 18+ years, this is all he does, he's the best I've ever seen and he's done several cars for me, many of which have had heavy heavy track use. He uses the highest quality materials. I don't know the brands, but it's a ultra high temperature epoxy based primer, a ultra high temperature automotive paint, and a ultra high temperature clear coat on top. That's about as helpful as I can be. In the 6+ years I've been using him, I haven't had a single issue on any car, including the higher end exotics that go through extreme temperature variances on track. |

We need to setup a swap thread and people close to each other can just swap calipers instead of having to paint them.
Looks OEM OP, good job.

Did your guy remove the brake caliper completely and disconnect the brake line? From the photos it looks like he did, but it also looks like the caliper is being painted outside, right next to the car, so I'm wondering what the process was.
Looks great! |

The caliper is not disconnected from the car. If you look at the pictures you'll see he has a custom stand that he uses that he bolts the caliper to so it hangs there where it would normally sit, but the rotor and hub are removed. So it floats so he can work at it from all angles. It's truly beautiful how he does it.
Here's a zoomed out picture so you can see. |
