Why are people selling their M2 Competition soo soon?
I'm in the market for a M2 Competition. I've been looking through BMWs inventory listing, Autotrader, Cars.com and I was surprise to find a handful of M2 Competition with low mileage for sale. Pricing is wayyy off..Dealers are asking an arm and a leg for a low mileage M2C. Seems like the best bet is to grab a new one. But also, I can't help but wonder why are there soo many 2019-2020 for sale? Car is still brand new. People not liking it?

With the current economic situation, some folks may have less discretionary income. Also, the current used car market is hot for some of the same reasons. So dealers may be incentivizing folks to trade in cars to move into new cars.

My guess would be daily livability. The M2 is one of those cars where you get in and immediately your instincts say, "I've got to have one of these now!" Then you have to live with it. If you need to transport anything more than just one other person, or if your joints and discs have more than 40 years of wear, your initial instincts are quickly jarred, quite literally. It's always praised as more practical than a 718 or a Supra and, therefore, more versatile, but it really is just a rough-riding, bad-mannered, aggressive 2-seater that happens to have extra storage. It's your high school drinking buddy that takes you to the limit every time you meet up. It's all cracking good fun. And then you get up the next day to get the groceries or take the kids/dog/spouse somewhere. Coming from someone with an M2C on order...

Reasons vary widely but cars of all makes and models are traded quickly with low miles just as often as they are kept for extended periods of time.
Look at this inventory sorted by miles. https://www.themarkmotors.com/luxury...&direction=asc Last edited by Higgs Boson; 09-15-2020 at 11:10 AM.. |

It doesn't mean anything or set a trend , lots of reasons why people sell cars to trade up or for other reasons. I am selling my 19 vette in excellent condition for the M2C and there are lots of crazy people like me

M2C is quite practical. Just got new wheels/tires installed today. Stuffed the stock wheels/tires in the car with rear seats down and took them home. Can't do that in a Porsche 911 or Cayman/Boxster...but I do love Porsche...

I have 2 theories on this...
1) Many people get wowed and buy the newest, flashiest thing around without knowing what they are getting themselves into and then quickly need to dump the car - this comes as a result of not doing your research. 2) Many that buy these cars cannot afford them. This is an enthusiast car and its target crowd is typically younger than most of the other models... |

My motivation to buy the 6-speed M2C was the S55 powerplant. I knew the potential (via tuning) would always be there when I was ready and it seemed to be the perfect compliment to my DCT M4. However what I didn't factor in was a L5 back issue that makes pushing a clutch in very uncomfortable. So selling it now and looking for a DCT M2C replacement is my goal. Anyone looking for a 2020 manual, slick top, Executive package, Alpine white, Black with blue stitching, 3200 miles please contact me for details.

I am also surprised how high the preowned M2Cs were listed on these sites. Also, they're not really moving at those list prices. The M2C is such a niche product and not everyone instinctively go for one. Especially with the G80 M3/4 being released, most people who want a performance car or want to get into the M name would just go for that. Also, the G87 should be released in 2022. That car will be a hell of a beast and if it can get the CF buckets, it will be a true winner.
I do think demand for this generation of the M2C will bounce back in the future. However, in the meantime, it will depreciate just as all the other mainstream M products.

my guess is they are looking to flip or make their money back for the markup they paid. every time there is a hot sports car people wanting the latest "it" thing will jump on it and then move on to the next after a short while.

Good theory and I would agree. At least dealers are having this mentality. There are many M2c going for literally brand msrp, which makes zero sense to me.

My speculation - lots of younger buyers drawn to the M2C. I would not be surprised if many who purchased really stretched their budgets and bit off more than they could chew.

Given end of this gen model, some might be selling to either make a profit in used market or waiting for new one to come out in a couple of years. Also given remote workforce is much larger now, some cars just sit in the garage. Purely speculating....
Ofcourse I'm finding any excuse to drive mine.
