Took my wife's out Monday in heavy snow for the first time.

BBS 18/245s with X-ice square.

Very impressed.

Certainly better than my 991.2 on PA4s.

That's funny...surely you can't be serious though. I guess that X5 must have had summer tires because there's no way that a RWD is going to be able to put more power down in deep snow (not sure what you meant by deep, but the M2 has not much in the way of ground clearance) compared to any 4WD or AWD SUV unless it's equipped with bald summer tires.

I live on the ridge of a mountain. In fact, my development's name is Eagle Ridge. I have to go uphill and downhill whether I am coming home or leaving home. AWD and/or 4WD is pretty much a necessity when the plows can't keep up with the snow.

Definitely not summer tires (my biggest pet peeve are people driving summer tires in winter) but to be fair, it was on all seasons, and fairly deep snow...we were in the middle of a lake effect snow storm getting over a foot in accumulation that day. Proper winter tires make a massive difference.

My winter vehicle is a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (which comes with the top 4WD system that you can' get in a Grand Cherokee) and I normally drive it on all season tires all winter long. The thing is absolutely unstoppable in the snow, even with the all season tires. I pushed through snow that was up to my headlights on more than one occasion.

My area is also on a ridge. It is called Blue Ridge.

My 17' M2 is awesome in the snow. It also does well when I'm racing on frozen lakes in upstate NY with Michelin PA4s on all four corners. The parking lot photo is after 7 inches of snow. No prob getting home that mid-November night.

I am not surprised. I put 30k miles on 2 sets of PA3s and they are definitely more for clear / light winter weather. If I had to regularly drive through snowstorms I would not buy a performance winter.
