Anyone else super impressed with these cars in the snow?
I just got my 2017 M2 about 3 weeks ago... 2 days after I bought it I took it to our local track and found out just how great it is for track use... A week later I took drove it to Pittsburgh for an autocross with some friends out there and found out how great it is for autocross... And now with some good winter tires, I am blown away at how competent it is in the snow and ice... The diff propels it along with absolutely no issues, out accelerating awd X5's in deep snow and ice all day long!
I was really worried about it, being a high powered RWD car, but I knew I wanted it to be a track toy as well as my DD and SO glad it does so well in literally every condition I've put it on! Anyone else getting some snow on their tires with their M2's?

We get very little snow so mine doesn’t get winter tires. My Contis are terrible in the snow so my M2 usually stays home when snow is around. That is usually only 2 or 3 days a year so no big deal.

I usually resist putting on my snow tires until there is snow on the roads, but I probably will make an exception for the M2. My Contis were remarkably slippery on my drive home from work today with temps in the high 20s. (And I know all about summer tires in low temps, I've been driving RWD BMWs with summer/winter tires in New England for the past 23 years).

Man, am I jealous lol. We get about 6 months of snow...lake effect snow at that. We got about a foot last night, and the roads near my place get plowed just enough to leave about 2 inches of ice on the roads. Makes for a fun trip lol

Yet, if it does snow i'm completely fucked. I live on a hill in the city and Pilot Super Sports are not going to cut it if there's any snow whatsoever on the ground. |

Indeed! I'm down in San Antonio for work right now, but been checking my Ring camera's on how much snow we got back home. Thats quite a bit for this early in November.

Blizzaks square 255/35r19 on square rims and 100 lbs of weight in trunk and this car is better than most 4x4’s until depth of snow is over 6 inches, then it starts to bulldoze and eventually gets highcentered. Although I’ve never been stuck yet and I daily it in Canada, on 3rd winter right now.

With decent snow tires and MDM on, this car is unstoppable in NYC snow belt winter.
MDM works best because if DSC is fully enable, in the snow covered roads, the system to hunts for traction, which is obviously intermitted; causing the vehicle to have a jarring feel, as it activates. The halfway point, MDM, smooths it out since it give you some control before kicking in.. You can thank the electronic LSD for the awesome traction, which is secretly the crown jewel of all M car's dynamic stability. The controllable torque lock-up and brake bias stability control, allows for a ideal command, which is more predictable and intuitive to the driver, even in limited traction, snow covered roads. |

Interesting, I'm gonna have to try that. I've just had it in DSC fully on...I'm not surprised that turning it down a bit makes it better just like it does on track.

Ah man, sounds like you're in the right place to enjoy the early snow and zero degrees...from afar

Yeah, MDM is the mode to drive in for snow. Doesn't let you get too crazy, but gives you enough tire spin to actually be able to move.

It sure surprised me.
I came form supercharged e46 with mechanical LSD (similar power and torque to the M2). The F87 traction control and DSC is miles ahead, incredibly easy to drive in the snow and lots of fun in MDM mode. |

Not sure what it is about this car, but it'll lose rear grip even in comfort mode with stock hp, so yeah, a Winter set was on my list for sure. Hopefully they'll be here next week and I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Do you have the Conti's or PSS's? My Conti's slip a lot in the parking garage of my work, doesn't really bother me now but I am also still getting winter tires for the 2 days of snow I have here because of that reason.

Yeah I'm going into my 2nd winter and the car handles poor conditions like a champ. We get all caught up in the dry performance capabilities of these cars but they are very solid in the snow with a decent set of winter tires.

Conti's, and they are new. They certainly don't like cold weather either, this morning it was 21° when I went to work and they were all over the place.
