M235i - Exhaust pops

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey,

hope I'm doing this right, I have recently picked up my M235i - my old car was a 2021 M340i, it used to bang and pop all the time.

This M235i is very different I think it has only done it once or twice, do I need to run it in for more? or do I have to accept this isn't going to do that?

The m235i isn't really a true m car either but, as BMW state 'a junior m car'...

Fortunately/Unfortunately, they are completely different cars.

Has anyone tried removing the opf filter and/or resonator. That could potentially make a difference

Also I’m not sure whether they will be compatible with the f44’s but you can get pop and bang maps fairly commonly here in the uk where they just tweak your overrun configuration to allow it to pop more

I can’t recommend doing that though as I’m not sure what long term effect that would cause to your cat and injectors

I’ve seen a video today of a m340i I know it’s a completely different car but anyways they don’t pop from standard to my knowledge and the video I seen of one today has had a opf delete and a remap and it popped near enough every time they revved it from standstill

I’m gunna look into getting my opf out and seeing what happens

Mine does pop a hell lot stock, I did a exhaust removing the resonator or opf (idk long story) and muffler. I got a CeL but I removed it with bimmer link but it keeps getting back every few days. The car sounds insane around 120db. Pops are loud and crips and shifting from 1-2 the car screams soooooo loud

I assume it's likely different here in the US, vs overseas, but my stock m235i pops and bangs far more than my m2. More than any of the m cars I've had amd more than any other bimmer I've owned. The rest kind of gurgle in their stock forms.

Was your 'resonator or OPF' a single fat cylinder or a two part system?

Thanks, just confirmed my research! That is indeed an OPF. We have different setups in Australia which is like a double secondary Cat/Resonator setup.

Hi All,
Recently got a 2020 M235i Gran Coupe and I’ve been searching high and low for exhaust tips and I cannot find them anywhere. The ones I was told would work are round whereas the exhaust itself is the m performance exhaust which is more oval it seems.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

If you look at the exhaust about 100mm/4inches in, it does round out. This is where you unfortunately have to cut for the exhaust tips to fit. It should then sit flush with the bumper.
