It's a tricky situation. Actually, in 99% cases it isn't beneficial to just add weight lower to the ground because it also increases the overall mass of the car for linear acceleration as well.

Removing weight is best for turning when it is above the center of gravity that is created by the main frame of the car, because that lessens the distance between the CoG and the ground. So overall, I'd say "yes" to your comment.
This is really helpful - thank you!

Now if we could just get some suggestions to BMW on this car.

Really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh!
I wonder if porsche fans are saying this about the next 911. " will it be 'special enough ' since it has a turbo motor?"

LOL

You bet they will. Very easily upset the older 911 generation fans. Remember air cooled vs water cooled etc. it will no doubt be a knockout success as ever, it's also ironic that their long term halo models are all Turbo or Turbo S, brilliant marketing foresight or luck, surely this help quell the disquiet.

You best believe the prices for a 997 GT3 isn't going to come down any time soon

Weight towards the top of the vehicle applies a greater torque to the bottom of the wheels throughout a turn, because the roof for example is farther from the contact point between the wheels and the ground. That's why carbon fiber hood and roof are the usually first places to get the treatment, however they are large panels so if cost is an issue they may not be CF. I can explain further why the CF is more effective higher up on the car if you'd like, but I'd have to draw some sketches.

EDIT: Sometimes its good in engineering to look at the extreme. Think of a tall truck, how it tips over easier. Its because the weight is distributed to higher points off the ground, so turning which is non linear acceleration, means the force due to this non linear acceleration is farther from the ground. And torque = F x Distance. So the increase in distance increases the torque, which then tips the car over.

Is that more clear now?

P.S. if there is any opening in engineering at BMW I will literally give an arm and a leg for a lead into a job there.
Haha, I am a mechanical engineer as well. If you are looking to go that route, you definitely need to brush up on the languages, and I am willing to bet most positions are in the 10-15+ direct relevant experience range. But definitely possible.

Well just a bit of fun, its also the worst M2 ever of course but my glass is 1/2 full for this car, can't wait to see it and drive it.
Indeed, I hated it the moment I feel in love with it...

Loved the M1. Hope the M2 has better Production Numbers.
As usual, when these great Models become available in Aust. there priced out of the ordinary peoples pockets with greedy Government and Dealer Charges.

Looking forward to M2 updates.

UPDATED JANUARY 22, 2015:

Updated with more photos, this time of a more advanced prototype body testing in Sweden. The black M2 prototype wears the same body as the red M2 spied back in September, which shows the production bound M styled front bumpers, rear diffuser, fender flares, and quad exhaust. There may be other bodywork yet to come, but you should expect to see kidney grilles with double slats and M2 badge on the production car.

Follow our M2 news and coverage BMW M2 (F87).

I'm absolutely loving the proportions of this thing! Totally a worthy sucessor to the 1M in terms of looks

Finally got production side skirts too

Did the E92 or F80/82 Ms have power bulge hoods at this point in development ?

I can't remember.
