Yeah, for sure. If they want it that bad they can have it, I'll get a new one .

Locking Lug Recommendation (Gold 763 Wheels)?

There were posts several weeks back with a lug recommendation for the gold wheels. Can't find that thread now - would appreciate any recommendations.

For example (mine on my former M2 and my current M2C featuring 763M wheels - black head version):

Less than €55 + shipping = money well-spent on your first mod.

Just Google "27226SUB" and you'll find the black ones in the right size.

Actually I'm getting the gold wheels with my M2CS. I was tempted to wait to see the wheels and ensure I get locking lugs that match the other lugs and wheel center.

Adding a non-BMW wheel lock per wheel helps preventing wheel theft by amateurs (who often have the BMW key set) + damage from leaving the car without wheels (rotors / body / paint). However, it will not stop pros who are determined to get your wheels (if they want them, they'll get them).

Tip 1: 5 bolts per wheel: fit the wheel locks opposite to each other, rather than right next to each other.

Tip 2: wheel lock key storage: imagine where thieves would look first to find the key and outsmart them.

McGard wheel locks (rumor has it that they are a BMW supplier) - M14 x 1.25 is the right size for F87 M2:

Artemis - do you understand the difference between the part you recommended (McGard 27226) and a very similar part available for barely more than half the price (McGard 27326)? The former is *very* slightly shorter in shaft and overall length. In the U.S. Amazon sells the latter at $37.99:
https://www.amazon.com/McGard-27326-...R03Q66A1P1TSJB

whereas the McGard 27226 is comparably priced to the price in Euros at your link.

McGard (manufacturer) should know that answer. The only point of fact we know is that the model number is different (and a different price-point too, it seems). Whether these have internally the same part number (or not) but externally a different model number: McGard knows that answer. Maybe different model numbers for different markets ? Pricing: remember that also VAT applies in Europe.

I only shared my experience to help out others: the ones that I use do fit. That's all I said and that's all that I will keep saying. Whether other model numbers from McGard or other brands are identical or fit: maybe that's the case or maybe that's not the case; anyways I never made statements about that because of the mere fact that I have never tried these. I also never claimed that the ones I use are the only ones to get. Feel free to buy what you like and thanks in advance for sharing your experiences too. If you buy different ones than those that I use: good for you + that's your choice.

Note: with this comment I don't peddle back on what I stated in previous comments in a similar recent thread (see for example here). I only shared my personal experiences (use of those parts on my current M2C and on my former M2).

So I had "spline style" wheel locks on my F80 but my G07 and now F87 CS seem to use McGard locks.

Having a hard time figuring out which is better. Been reading up on both but can't seem to find concrete info.

Seems like the only wheel lock set available is 36-13-2-453-961 which I assume is the same as "Z62 Wheel Locks" which you can get port-installed. These look to be McGard.

Anyone know if the "spline style" lock set 36-13-6-776-076 is better/worse or even fits on the F87 CS? Also, seems like the spline style comes with 2 keys vs. McGard's 1 key.

Not looking to debate locks vs. no locks... I am certainly getting wheel locks... just not sure what the difference between these two are.

Thanks in advance!

I am with the group of wheel locks. My M2 came without them but the dealer installed them free of charge before he handed me the keys.

Yes I understand many dealers give them for free with purchase.

What I am looking for is to understand the difference between the 2 styles.

I bought two sets of the spline type. Installed a set on my M2C. Will be installing on CS next. I assume there is no difference.

Wheel locks are pretty much pointless and I'm surprised so many people still use them. Any competent wheel thief will take like 10 extra seconds to get a lock off. It isn't going to stop anyone from stealing your wheels. A wheel lock removal kit is $50, or you hammer a socket on and crank it off like any normal lug.

More often than not its just a false sense of security, and they look crappy. Don't park your $60k+ car in the hood and you won't have an issue

These types of replies are frustrating - I questioned whether to piggy back off this sh!tshow of a thread because of the prior sentiment here. My question was regarding what the difference was between two BMW wheel lock options.

What surprises me is that you're from NY/NJ and feel like a $60k (or an $80k) car is expensive to park in "the hood". When I lived in a penthouse apartment in the tallest residential tower in NJ, guess where I parked? Yep, the parking deck below. My friends with even more expensive cars? On the street "in the hood" below.

Don't chastise folks for $50 wheel locks on a car forum where we gladly pay $45 for colorful stickers.

If someone really wants to steal your wheels and they are determined they will steal them. Locks may prevent it if someone doesn't realize you have them on and are not prepared.

And to say they look really bad. Come on? Do you get down on your knees and look at cars? I can't even tell. I drive the crap out of my cars both on street and track. I couldn't give a crap as to how a lug nut is going to look.

I live in "the hood" as you say so I have to take precautions. I can only afford to park my $200k+ cars in the garage and leave my 60k+ cars outside for the butler to use.

Awesome, thanks for confirming! I even called BMW Parts and they said my VIN was not compatible with the spline style locks 🙄 but they gave me no answer as to the differences in either SKU.

The F80 came with spline style and 2 keys (1 of which I kept in the garage for easy access) whereas the G07 came with McGards and 1 single, much larger key.

I do prefer the look of spline style and 2 keys.

Artemis I see you like the McGards. Any known benefit to that vs. spline style?

A smart thief would steal your wheels AND your CCBs! Only an extra 30 seconds per corner.
