So I've got a WTB ad for a Ferric 437 and I get this PM from Christopher38 about a guy that has one.

So I contact MichealBenson656@yahoo.com and ask about the wheel. Seems it's perfect, and he has a couple of them...at $250 each + shipping (as if). The pix are grainy, so I ask if there are issues, and he's like "they're perfect."

So I do a google search and I get the phone book, and a lot on M3 post...

Pretty common nowadays with online purchases.

I'm not a dummy but merely rolled the dice on a few reasonable-priced purchases but since this summer, I was already scammed like four times already from eBay sellers.

Got all my money back from PayPal but buyer's beware..

I always encourage people not to use Venmo as a form of transferring money to other forum members when purchasing items. Venmo doesn't care nor interested in fighting fraud so use PayPal as an example that'll reimburse you after you've opened and proved a fraudulent transaction has occurred. Had to find out the hard way unfortunately, from this very forum. They were also wheels so they weren't cheap. I was lucky enough the balance that got transferred through Venmo was taken from my bank (not an existing Venmo balance) and through a long process with my bank my money was returned thankfully. If I had that balance on Venmo and made that transfer you can kiss that money goodbye. In addition, I reported this user to Bimmerpost and got no response whatsoever.

We should report them to Bimmerpost and ask them to either blacklist that IP or email or something. Perhaps set a minimum time or post # before you can post in the classifieds. No rational thief (if you can consider them rational) would spend that much time and effort just to post on classifieds. Will that solve all our problems? no but nothing is ever 100% in the cyber world, but it is a solid deterrent for your common thief. Just my .02. If anyone agrees or have suggestions to submit something as such to Bimmerpost maybe then they would take this matter a little more seriously.

Paypal has saved my ass more than once. Hate their fees but in the end it's worth it for the peace of mind.

Excellent point; I've seen so-called BMW/M2 fanatics here come and I've witness them disappear into an oblivion, so there ain't no loyalty in this game.. Credit card chargeback disputes is always your best friend..

Had another person contact me today seeing reqhc out to this guy he has a car you are looking for. Then sends me some random pics of the wrong car. Then of a transmission then of a what seems like perfect car. 0 details and anytime he says something it contradicts something else. Immediately got the scam vibe. Searched his email and this comes up. Avoid this scammer

I emailed the guy, same picture is being used, and he's going under the name Danny Jose.

I'm not usually a proponent of anarchy, but there are times when I wish we could summon up a posse and go hang people like this.

I get it, you don't have a job, no skills, living in your momma's basement and you can't get laid because you're ugly and you're stupid (neither of which is your fault, I guess) so you take out your frustration and anger by trying to steal money from innocent people. But it's not right. Go get a job at McDonald's. You can eat for free and they give you that really nice hat to wear.

Oh, a quick thought: I just recently bought a watch online. When doing stuff like that, aside from proper research and review of seller feedback on forums, I always ask the seller to send me a current photo of their driver's license, and this guy sent it laying on top of the watch. Thereby proving that it is in his possession. Sure, that's no guarantee, I could still get ripped off a number of different ways. But it's easy to ask, and if they can't produce it, then just walk away.

Holy $hit, I got the same PM for my WTB thread.
Was told to contact Jose in Texas, same number.
The guy sounded fishy as hell, said the 666M wheels/tires combo is in perfect condition and shipping would be $50.
Wasn't sure how shipping could be that low

Asks for Venmo as method of payment and of course I refuse.
Insisted on Paypal G&S.
The accounts he sends me all say 'cannot receive payment'.
Obviously Paypal knew he was a scammer.

So the next few days he constantly texts me providing different paypal accounts, but none of them worked.

At this point, I was pretty sure he's a scammer so I ask for the address of where the wheels are located.
I was really going to ask my buddy in Texas to go take a look at the wheels.

Jose says he can take payment ONLY... WTF??
With broken English, it was hard to understand what the guy was trying to say, but when I explained that someone will be there with cash in hand and take the wheels in person, he goes silent. lol

Beware, never pay with Venmo or Zelle.

When buying wheels just make sure of the following:

1) They are legit - aka has the bmw AG stamp on the inner rim, because you can buy style 437m wheels on alibaba for $50 a pop, and they look legit. So just because it is a low price doesn't mean it is a scam you could just be getting replica wheels that will likely break easily meaning they are extremely dangerous.

2) Use paypal NOT friends and family, use the standard transactional paypal (goods and services) to get buyers protection.
