I thought maybe some of you guys could enlighten me on the difference between M Dynamic Mode (short press on DSC) and Sport+ mode. The owner's manual shows that they both exist however the description is not really helpfull.

Oh you mean the 10x10 table with all the different modes doesn't explain everything clearly? Yeah, I'm still pretty confused by all the different modes...

Mdm mode reduces nannies, I think it cuts throttle less if it detects loss of traction, gives comfort throttle response, not sure how it affects steering or gear changes if dct. It does give extra pops and burbles on exhaust of selecting your gears manually.

Sport+ gives heavier steering, most sensitive throttle response, same reduction of nannies as mdm mode, holds gears a lot longer than other modes if dtc, shifts harder if dtc, noticeably less cutting of throttle when you stop on the gas than sport or comfort because it allows wheels to slip a bit.

Sport is in between comfort and sport + steering, in between comfort and sport+ throttle response, I don't think it reduces nannies much if at all.

Long press dsc button nannies are off, sport throttle response, if manual no blip on shift.

I'm sure I missed something but that's broad strokes.

I only use short press dsc for mdm when I want obnoxious exhaust but want to take it easy on road (car warming up)

MDM (traction) is beneficial when stuck in heavy snow.

My recollection of that chart is that a short press of the traction button puts you in the same traction control mode as Sport+. Other things are also different in S+, but both are MDM which is a relaxed level of traction control.

Try remember this:
MDM = comfort mode + less nannies + more burble
DSC off = sport mode + no nannies
Sport+ = sportier sport mode + less nannies

TLDR version

Traction Control button
1. Short Press - chassis and transmission stays Comfort, Traction Control in M Dynamic Mode

2. Long Press/Hold - chassis and transmission in Sport mode plus Traction Control Off

Pressing the Traction button over-rides the Driving Mode button. So if you are in Sport mode and short press the Traction button, you are back in comfort for transmission and chassis

2. Sport - Traction fully on - chassis and transmission in Sport mode (unless you enable only one or the other in the iDrive menus)

3. Sport Plus - chassis and transmission in Sport mode plus Traction in MDM mode

In reality, there are just 5 settings since the Traction button overrides the Driving mode button.

I think the grid may make it easier to understand for some - but it also can confusion for others.

In sport+ the throttle it quite a bit more sensitive than sport.

Funny but in spite of all those options, none is my perfect set-up. I'd prefer M-Dynamic DSC, Comfort throttle with less of the silly pops and crackes and with the Sport weighting of steering.

DSC vs DTC.

DSC: Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is full nanny mode. DSC prevents wheel spin by not only controlling brakes, but also throttle management. DSC is the default mode when you start the car: all nannies active.

DTC: when you briefly push the DSC OFF button, the M2 goes into Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). In DTC, the computer will allow a limited amount of wheel spin. This is helpful in snow, mud or humid conditions when some wheel spin is acceptable or useful to move away. With DTC active, the M2 goes into COMFORT MODE. DTC won't kill the throttle to prevent wheel spin. More indulgent than DSC, you get more responsibility, but not all. What you get for sure: the loudest M2 crackle & pop sounds whenever you give brief soft throttle pushes when rolling at low(er) speed or releasing the throttle.

DSC OFF: when you hold the DSC OFF button for a few seconds, you'll disable DSC/DTC entirely of the M2. In this mode, the computer doesn't intervene at all (you sent the nannies away) - you're on your own. Beware, not only in treacherous road conditions, because there's a lot of power under your feet !

so if you take your car to the track and turn off the DSC the best throttle response and gear shift speed you can get is just Sport? why not Sport +?

this makes zero sense!

I won't be driving in any snow let alone heavy snow

I prefer M Dynamic Mode because I think "sport plus" shifts to damn hard

The sport + throttle is quite sensitive and getting back on the throttle on exit or modulating it becomes very tricky!
Can't comment on shift speed as I have a manual.
