My Rear Seat Delete

After waiting for 45 days to receive the parts I was able to fit the strut brace and seat delete kit.

I've been vocal that the few kits out there are wicked expensive. I saw a member post about this kit:

https://sternperformance.de/en/186-bmw-m2-competition

I also bought a ARC cross brace to shore up any structural issues from taking the rear seat backs out. Great quality and solid fit.

I also took out the back belts.

It looks fantastic and was easy to do. This mod along with my AntiGravity 15.6 lb Lithium battery saves me over 100 lbs!

Looks sweet. Did you weight the rear seats?

Even though I daily my M2, that net makes it seem like it would keep my trunk usable. Very Nice

Was the 45 days from when you placed your order, or when it shipped? My order shipped Jan 3rd but hasn’t arrived yet.

Carpet and net look great. Now I’m getting anxious for mine to show up.

The order shipped on Dec 9. Did not receive it until last Thursday.

it was delayed because of Christmas shipments. They use DHL parcel Service which I guess is really slow!

Very nice! Do you have any images of the arc cross brace? also where did you buy it?

How long did the Arc brace take to get to you? I have it on my list from rakuten.

Thanks. I guess I’ll continue to be patient. The tracking number they gave me doesn’t work, so I was starting to wonder what was going on. Based on your shipping time, I have another two weeks to go.

Anyway, looks great and I’m looking forward to having a bit more space for hauling the track wheels in the back. The weight savings is a nice side benefit.

The tracking # does work. But you have to use the euro DHL site and go thru the parcel post tracking link. I ran into the same thing BTW, then when the goods get to the US they switch to USPS...

Thanks. I didn’t think to try DHL.DE. That worked, but either it’s on a boat and won’t update until it reaches the port of entry, or they lose visibility in the handoff to USPS.

I feel better seeing the tracking info, so I’ll sit tight and it’ll get here when it gets here.

Thanks again.

Yes once its here in the states its USPS and you would need Josephin to provide you with tracking info.

Aren't you worried about weight distribution?

That's a pretty large factor since it moves alot of the weight up front causing under steer. For me I plan to have 20 kg of water in the trunk for water injection and radiator sprayers so it'll negate that weight loss nicely.

Not at all...… I'm a 100lbs lighter and I still can get the car corner balanced.

If your a good enough driver to notice a difference in where the weight is on the 4 corners during a autocross run or HPDE I'd be impressed!

100-200 lbs off the M2C will help in several ways.

100 lbs off the rear on an already front heavy car is huge and you'll definitely notice it. The effect you'll feel is more understeer with the front pushing more, and easier power on over steer. Essentially the car will be harder to control with more initial understeer and more power on over steer.

corner balancing won't help weight distribution (if the delta is really large) front and rear. You can't tweak spring rates, heights and sway bar preload enough to move that much weight front and back, unless you adjust the take rearwards and you'd have to do so significantly. Corner balancing helps most with left to right weight distribution.

Yes dropping 100lbs will help in acceleration, and it would help alot for track use if it wasn't all in the same place.

Taking 40lbs out of the back accounts for a 2.25% change. Nothing to be concerned about.

Edit: To explain further cause what I said was confusing. The rear of my car last time it was weighed was 1775lbs. Taking 40lbs would be a 2.25% change to the rear.

It would change my car from being 52/48 distribution to 52.6/47.4

I didn't mean it changes the weight distribution by 2.25%.

I've been setting up cars for 30 years now. Between camber and shock settings just about any car can be setup the way you want it. I really find it interesting how some people post about weight distribution concerns.

I've taken 60 lbs out between the two axles and the other 40 behind the rear. I'll be mounting the Essex 9660 kit up front taking 20 more lbs off the front axle then running 18x10" rims (also lighter than a 19" staggered setup) I'll be running 3.5-3.7 neg camber on my BFG R1's (275/35/18 sq)and about 2.9-3.0 on my street tires (RE71R's)265/35/19 & 285/35/19 on stock rims. This will be on a TC Kline SA/DA Coil over setup with 400/700 spg rates.

Last, I'll dial everything in using a internal probe tire pyrometer and my AIM SOLO DL.

I went to a local automotive upholstery shop and had them carpet the rear seat tray for $75...always leave the seat out to haul my track tires so this looks more finished and is a little quieter on the road.

I'm having trouble with the link I used to purchase it.

I grabbed this post as a starting point:

I looked it up earlier today, the one I designed would be stronger for this use case, as force is only applied upwards.

Concentric vs Eccentric Bracing:
http://www.seismicresilience.org.nz/...braced-frames/

I always had the ARC brace in my wish list. To the guy asking, both are available here. I was speaking to a guy a while ago with them and he said he received his in less than a week.

https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/...item/10002592/

I was also looking up carbon tubes and titanium pipe fittings. I may meet with a fabricator and see about making my design one day. I never wanted it for the stiffness, but to stop my laundry basket from sliding forward and tipping over when I go to do laundry. I have my rear seats removed.

KC Designs is another one that makes a rear brace for the M2
