Hello everyone.

What, if any, safety/convenience items do you permanently keep in your trunk?

I was thinking it may be helpful (especially on longer day trips) to keep a small bag of helpful items.

Thanks in advance!

I always have a tire plug kit. A tire inflator. A battery jumper. Also have a small med kit. Oh, an umbrella and a blanket as well.

+1 on the tire plug kit and inflator. Costco has a small inflator currently on sale, at least here locally. Of course it won't always help since this is possible, but with no spare it is always a risk. I also have a beach towel and gloves in the event I need to actually get on the ground.

Med kit is a great idea and I think I'll add that as well.

I have one of those rectangular buckets in the trunk with one side mostly full of this stuff:
-First aid kit, along with tourniquets and a breather mask
-fire extinguisher (element)
-quart of oil
-gloves - leather and latex disposables
-'mess kit' - mini bottles of Griots speed shine, interior cleaner, and hand cleaner with a couple of microfibers
-air pump (Viair) and pressure guage
-small tool roll (pliers, multi-screwdriver, few specific wrenches - only the stuff I'd know how to fix something with)
-bottle of water and an energy bar
-cheapo raincoat
-windex/paper towels
-assorted bags: big plastic ones and reusable grocery getters
-and my front plate in case I park someplace w/metermaids, or 'that I just took off to take some pictures, officer' (not that I've ever really had to use that line)

In the car I always have a towel, flashlight, seatbelt cutter, extra cash.

Should get myself a tire patch kit and one of those cheapo tyvek suits, and I've been seeing ads for better tire goo, but I've been lazy. The stuff I really end up using is the 'mess kit' (speed shine for bird crap) and the windex; fire extinghisher is also a must have IMHO, but fortunately has not been needed with the BMW's. Cash can also really help if you need unexpected tow or repairs in the boonies, but lately everybody is geared up to run cards, so I'm probably old fashioned.

And does the Valentine 1 on the windshield count as a safety device? Don't leave home without it.

I run an R7 with custom made international firmware by mittheru, it is absolutely incredible and allows k band segmentation via multiple knotches. As a result I literally dont get falses anymore because the detector is tune to exactly the radar bands I need in my area.

Yeah its a great detector and uniden keeps updating it and making it better. I have seen no reason to upgrade. I do get some falses when I go to a big city but around here I get almost nothing, pretty impressive.

I keep a front oem tire with a tire change kit out of an X5M.

But that’s extra. The real, ‘never leave home without it’ item is a mobile detailing kit. Can’t pull up with a trash looking car.

Imo the uniden software isn't the greatest because it lacks so many features (k band segmentation), that's why I went out and got the custom firmware - and that really made the r7 shine.

Mrcd photo radar, reflex photo radar, and raptor k band guns. These are all insanely hard to detect and gives you near zero (and actually zero in the case of forward firing reflex) detection range.

So if you want to make it hard to detect you'll use these new ultra low frequency variable frequency k band guns.

I live the boonies, upstate NY, here in the small towns is all K band all day long (which is the reason why I did not go Valentine, the K band sucks compared to the R7).

F87source good to know. It works ok for me here so have not had the need to look into a custom fw but like I mentioned I live in the middle of knowhere

Interesting. I got an escort 360 and the only time K went off was for traffic/construction zone speed indicators out here. So I just turned K off. Guess I’ll need to do some research before the next long road trip.

The issue with the escort max 360 is that it cannot scan low enough in the k band range to detect the new K band threats like redflex, mrcd, low powered raptors shooting low frequency k band etc. It also is a really poor performing detector as per testing (the new redline 360c and max 360c are on par with the best, but filtering algorithms apparently suck so much that it seems to struggle). So even it was on it would most likely not be sufficent against the modern day threats. Even the R7 is useless against forward facing redflex, there is no detector currently available that can provide protection against that.

On a side note good k blocks, filtering, and k band segmentation can compeltely stop almost all fasle alerts so its a really nice thing to have. If you have a v1 you can run jbv1 and set up custom k band segmentation for your area, if you have an r7 you need to get international firmware 150 and that is a huge game changer. My r7 is literally dead silent and never beeps unless it is a real threat (because I only have the parts of k band that is a threat in my area enabled) - that is how good segmentation can be.

Hopefully theia comes out at some point, that will be the real game changer because it is ai powered and can actually id the radar waves and provide real filtering that will never accidentally filter out legit radar. It should also provide monsterous range and might give us a chance against forward facing redflex.

Damn, just when I thought I was covered, the fuzz went even harder. Good info. I got a 360C mkII in the M2, but like I said, out here I’ve only seen it go off with Ka. So hopefully the local fuzz are behind in the upgrade arms race. I guess I won’t know anyways with the Escort. Hahaha.

I also got the M2 drive camera, which was the ‘main’ reason (excuse) to get radar, so I’d have an easy cam mount.

Can’t use that reasoning on the SUVs though, they have built in drive recorders.

That’s like what I carry in the diesel one ton while towing a trailer cross country. The fire extinguisher is smart, I’m going to toss one in the fleet.

I was swapping s V8 into and S-10 but had a small fuel leak I needed to fix, on the way back from the parts store with new AN fittings, I saw a car engulfed in flames on the side of the hwy and decided I didn’t want that. Especially in something I liked and spent s lot of time putting together.
