Moving on, sold my M2 Comp. Thoughts...
Sold my M2 Competition this Monday and traded it in on a Defender 90 (2 Door) and wanted some parting words on this car.
I've owned several BMWs - the e36, e46 3 series, e90 M3, F90 M5 Competition. The M2 competition is the best of the bunch - full stop. In fact I liked it more than the 992 Carrera I owned at one point. Steering feel is surprisingly good for a modern car and the chassis is surprisingly capable when pushed. The powertrain is powerful and responsive. The proportions are just right aesthetically and the packaging was well done - there is a good amount of room in the backseat and trunk. Reliability was solid - I had a rear taillight failure that was annoying but ultimately resolved with an REM module swap. I moved on because this is my daily driver and I regularly drive over big speed bumps, potholes, chip seal and gravel covered roads. It just got to be too much and, frankly, having three sports cars was excessive. The Defender 90 (w/400hp 6 cyl) has been great so far - in some ways it reminds me of the m2 - compact and hunkered down. Quick and rambunctious feeling with the short wheelbase and surprisingly roomy in the interior. It's a lot of fun to drive, but obviously completely different from the M2. tl;dr long term review: the M2 is a future classic and the one of the best cars BMW has ever made. Cheers |

I hear ya and agree with all except I simply can't bring myself to sell. I've had many M cars, P cars and even some exotics.
I'm considering a 992 TT or GTS but need these pries to drop and have to convince my wife to take my M2C and sell her M2 OG (to no avail so far). It feels a lot like my 1M made me feel...constant smile and drive to drive her hard. Package is perfect looks wise and driving feel...

We've owned a few Range Rovers/Land Rovers over the years. Believe it or not the new system is a huge improvement, but it's not as responsive or reliable as iDrive.

not super into new Land Rovers, I like anything prior to 2004, I think Disco 2 is the last body I actually like. I own a 2002 P38 right now. Love old defenders, classics and stuff.
However I do like the new defender, I think they did a good job with it, for a while now I was not a fan of anything LR was doing but this new defender has tons of potential. And yeah M2 is great, it woulda been a great second car to the Defender, it could have been a perfect garage haha (oh you got other cool cars, you will be fine lol) |

My wife has the new Range Rover and it's actually a really great car Luxurious, drives well and has very good fit/finish. It's definitely a different look and character compared to the old Range Rover/Land Rovers though. The new Defender is probably closer in spirit in terms of looks and feel. It drives more similar to a truck/Jeep, just a lot nicer. |

I never planned to sell my lil M2 either, but all it does is sit on a pedestal. We’re having some fits with my chicks X5M, so we got her a X4M that we can share and now I’m thinking these two SUVs are enough.
How bad do you folks miss your M2 after living without it? I got mine to daily drive for work in Vegas, but I never did and now it just sits in the garage a lot more in Oregon.

What are the used Comps selling for these days anyways? Looks like $50-60k. Dang. That’s a lot lower than I was expecting. Haha. Oh well.

yeah I think its holding on pretty good. Most if not all are about 50k on a car that base price was 58k and max price was like 62k. 2021s are still going for 60k. Pretty good hold imo.
As far as selling it, really depends what you use it for, if it just sits in the garage and is basically a daily I think its a sell, if you take it to the track once in a while or do some nice fun weekend drives then the X4M or any fast SUV just not gonna cut it. I feel bad that mine basically also sits but I track it 5-6 times a year and its amazing for that, my wife told me I should sell it and get something else for the track but I looked into it and anything else I want costs about the same so why not keep this as I really enjoy it. I might take it for a fun drive at lunch today, nice fall day over here. |

We had ours for just 18 months and couldn't sell it fast enough - it looked and drove great, was luxurious and wonderful - except for the software that caused it to sit in service for at least 2 of those 18 months. (compounded by the dealership's lack of loaner cars and waiting for a service window) Because it controlled all aspects of the in-car experience, each and every update created a new issue - passenger seat ventilation quit, 360 degree camera errors, CarPlay failure (a big one) are just a few of the items. They eventually even tried replacing the entire headunit. The most curious part was that service was unable to do any of the work - I was repeated told all they could do locally was "plug the truck into the LR servers and someone from England would work on it remotely." and "that updates via this connection takes hours to complete". (which is something similar I was told as recently as last week by my BMW SA when they went to perform the software update/recall and got the "blue screen of death in my M2C) And on top of all that, the defaulted "auto-off" functionality and the ability to turn that off was hidden three pages deep into the UX and you had to go thru that each and every time you got in the truck. Maddening. I do hope the OP enjoys Pivi-Pro-Problem free ownership - wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. |

That’s not all that bad. When dealers lowball and turnaround and sell the car for 10-20k more hurts.
Thanks for the info.

I can feel that OP, the M2 is a great car. I too have been craving a 992 GTS, but the prices are insane, and my M2C makes me all too happy anyway. I dont think I'm selling mine ever, but lets see.

The Defender has a dedicated auto start stop button on the dash, so I don't have to go through the UI. Her Range Rover is a two button process on the UI to get to that, which is a bit more annoying. I'd say over the four Land Rovers I've owned, they are generally more glitchy on the software than others. Mechanically, they've been pretty solid. Ironically, I had more mechanical issues with my old Land Cruiser than our Range Rovers. Go figure. |

The more 911s I pass on track the less the magic spell that makes them so desirable works. I still want to experience one for some time, but don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.

The TTS was more fun, great feel and handling. That car makes you look like a hero, but it's almost a little too easy (if that's a complaint). It's a better car than the M2C, but did I enjoy driving it more? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. My 991 Touring is definitely a step up from the M2C - it's exciting in a way the M2C can't really match. The GT cars are really where 911s start to separate from the pack. M2/C is no joke on the track. Especially against a Carrera, I'd say it's a driver's race. |
