Service Plan UK
Hi All,
What’s the consensus on the £999 service plan is it really worth it??? I drive approx 10-12k per year, I will have my car for 3 years as it’s a lease. So I will drive approx 36k in the time that I have it. My local dealer has quoted £275 for 1200 mile service and £280 for 1st year service @ 18k miles. They couldn’t quote on the 36k service as it would depend on the cars status which is understandable. But they mentioned ball park £600+ due to spark plugs, brakes etc... Going by expected mileage I’ll will need 3 services incl the run in service. Is the 2nd/3rd service or 36k Mile service really going to be that expensive that the £999 is worth it? Ta |

I didn't go for it. Played on my mind for a little, but as said above the benefit is marginal for 3 yrs. The funny thing for me was the salesman didn't even mention it to me as I bought the car and I'd usually expect this to be one of the things they push hard for, along with GAP and bloody Lifeshine (which they wouldn't shut the hell up about)! I'd researched it myself and was anticipating for the hard sell, but it never came.

With lease you have to go with dealer servicing so you're kind of stuck.
Im not leasing this time so I'll only take it to a dealers for the run in service then it will never go near a shit dealer with their kwik fit reject technicians again, except for any warranty work. Only a reputatable indy will do for a car I care about. Better, more regular servicing for a lot less money. |

I’m thinking of going this route also when my car gets here, buying my parts and getting them installed and serviced independently. The warranty will therefore be kept. My wife’s Q5 was in at Glasgow Audi yesterday, 40k on the clock and all 4 pads and discs needs replaced - £1423 The dealers are taking the piss with regular work like servicing, brakes etc... |

I'll still use bmw parts. A good Indy will get discount on parts anyway.
Or buy your own parts. Cotswold bmw do free mailorder on parts and will discount too. Brakes i do my self as they are consumables rather than a service item. |

I never went for it.
Running in service I paid £225 for and the next service is not much more, the next one after that i will be looking to move the car on so BMW can take care of that. |

Is this just for BMW M cars do you know as I've never had an issue having my lease cars serviced elsewhere in the past? However, this is the first BMW M car that I've ever leased. Thanks in advance.

It'll be buried in the contract terms. I've had 2 x BMW (previous M and non M) and Merc leases (contract hire) and they all stipulated franchised dealer servicing in the terms.
It's not like when you buy the car you can service it anywhere, the owner of the lease car can stipulate servicing at dealers. They listed missed services or non dealer servicing as a chargeable factor if they deem it to have reduced the value of the vehicle (which is their only concern at the end of the day). |

Just a random question as I saw this pop up on my feed. Is service not included for 3 years in the UK?
In australia and the US oil changes etc are included for 3 years. Not brakes but still seems better. |

Yeah I weighed it up when buying my LCI. It would have worked out more expensive due to the lower mileage I do, particularly as it's now the same price for 3 yrs instead of 5 yrs. |

The service packs are really just a way to get you into the dealers where they stand a chance of fobbing you off with extra (chargeable) work or services.
