DO88 Intercooler info + Pics
Hi all attached for perusal are some pictures of my newly arrived DO88 Intercooler for our platform.
There's not really any great deal of info on these so this can act as a reference if so desired. I went with DO88 to be a little different, I know there is a lot of love for CSF but the DO88 price point was more mentally doable for my brain than the price commanded by CSF or Wagner. DO88 have been extremely communicative via e-mail and I can tell from these exchanges they aren't going to mess me around. They also publish data which I don't see other manufacturers doing. There's a little (storage?) dust on it or maybe from manufacturing but otherwise it is a well made unit. The forge CP milled adapters also appear to fit nice and snug ( I didn't push it all the way on with dry O rings as was encountering resistance, is it a snug push fit or bit of engine oil needed sometimes?) Install date is 14th Sept as per MST inlet thread I made i'll be getting MST V2 turbo inlet pipe installed, Forge CP and Turbosmart plumb back diverter valve. Well packaged delivered via UPS for free to UK when orders are over £300: I like the look of the non-opened, reinforced mounting point, hopefully it fits fine, DO88 say it is completley PNP on their site: Mounting screws: Flow guide on hot/inlet side: Always thought intercooler welding must be tricky, these look ok to me: Actual instructions!: Lighter than the shipping weight of 14.4kg: Last edited by 3t3p; 08-17-2020 at 04:44 AM.. |

Are you doing BM3 for sure? Are you using the torque app? I’d strongly recommend you do the inlet and any other mods on the intake side while your there, may also want to to consider wrapping the charge pipe in heat reflective tape. |

No cos it's still on the car
Must be simple enough to find out though. AmuroRay I'm not racing and going to be wrapping anything ! Not using BM3 either Thought this was you, why are you so grateful and interested in this thread now? Originally Posted by 3t3p View Post No love for DO88? I'm thinking of going with them. You ADDRESSED it after all. probably based on proof, that you didn't offer. strange behaviour is all i'm saying. People notice inconsistency, just like I did. It’s NOT suited for track driving. But proof that I didn’t offer? You and I both know the logs exist -
For your reading pleasure: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=38 Honestly, I’m not concerned with what ‘others’ think of me - I’ve been objectively right on this subject since the beginning and I welcome anyone to dispute anything I said. I’m not the arbiter of truth, but I have zero skin in the game. And I’m 100% sure you’re aware of this thread, because you posted in it: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1624831 Wagner Evo 2 vs Do88 https://www.do88.se/dokument/bibliot...re_diagram.jpg Do I think the Do88 intercooler is on par with something like the Evo3 or VRSF Race? No, not even close. Is it a solid alternative to a ATM, VRSF 5”, and Evo 2 - sure. |

I have one on my car. The way it was honestly presented, is fairly big for a 6", and priced fairly sealed it for me.
Also do88 really knew their stuff when I emailed them a good number of queries - the same couldn't be said for csf (who didn't know the dimensions or volume of their unit! WTF! ) On my unit the bolts were unfortunately missing on arrival, but do88 got them internationally couriered to me next day, and this was just a few days before Christmas, so good service from them. |

Perhaps I should have gone to them - csf UK were friendly but didn't seem to know much detail.

Sorry for reviving this old thread but I just installed this DO88 intercooler and the clearance between the V-brace and the intercooler is paper-thin, the intercooler is even touching the V-brace on the top edge, is it the same for yours 3t3p ?

I don't know, can you see that when the car is all done up again? My garage didn't mention anything when they fitted it and I've had no problems. Doesn't mean it's not touching of course!

I am sure it would work without an issue, it's just really tight and I would like to avoid having the brace slowly grinding part of the intercooler over time. |

It would make things even worse and the reinforcement brace will eventually grind through it anyway.
I asked DO88 and they said that it is not supposed to touch and that they never had this issue before. I spent a week and a half exchanging emails with them and trying various workarounds to make it work, including spacing the brace with some washers and removing both charge pipes to check if it was creating some tension pushing the radiator assembly against the brace, but I never managed to make it clear. I am sure some people would be fine with it, but I do not like the idea of having the intercooler touch this brace, because the vibrations from driving are just going to slowly grind it. DO88 said that their intercooler is trying to take advantage of all of the available space so there is not much clearance by design, it seems like my car falls in one extreme of BMW's tolerances and will not clear it so I will be returning it. Bummer, I was really looking forward to trying it... |

Question, can you do basic measurements on it? Total
Height, depth of the step portion, din density and weight? At this point, you can install an M235i vbrace or buy a smaller core. |
