MST V2 inlet not fitting

Has anyone had any trouble fitting the metal adapter to the turbo?

Currently having a shop install the mst/turbosmart combo. Surprisingly they had no difficulty installing the DV valve but said they are having trouble installing the inlet. Stated it is hard to fit in and wondering if the oring gaskets are the wrong size, being to large. They emailed MST and waiting for a response. They don't want to force it in either in fear of damaging anything.

TIA

We installed a MST v2 on bentom2's M2 yesterday. It's definitely tight and takes patience. We installed the metal turbo piece first and started the nut to secure it to the turbo. This was easy and everything slipped in. We used a little Napa SilGlyde on the o-rings to ensure they don't get snagged up or scratched while sliding into the turbo.

To get the intake pipe itself in, we removed the metal adapter piece that the PCV bolts to as the pipe needs to be squished to get it through all the hard lines at the top. Then it takes a little careful finagling to get to to slide over the metal receiver that is on the turbo.

We also installed the PCV adapter to the PCV pipe first and then slid that into the silicone intake pipe.

LMK if you have questions.

Yeah, lubrication is key to installing the coupler. I used engine oil. I figured that the orings will see engine oil anyway, so it should not hurt them. Still needed at least 10-20kg of force to push the coupler into the turbo.

If they are trying to attach it to the turbo with the silicone attached to the actual aluminum fitting they're doing it wrong

That needs to be attached to the turbo first

Yep, that's how I installed mine - flange on turbo first then sliding the inlet (with the clamp semi-loosely on the inlet) onto the flange.

I did have some fitment issues though - the inlet is basically resting on the radiator fan shroud... but that isn't too big of a deal I guess.

It can be fitted tighter so that won't be the case

You just have to hold it away from the radiator pushing it towards the turbo tightly as the person below tightens the hose clamp holding it to the flange

Not installed yet. They are waiting for a reply back from MST. One thing they noticed is the rings are black and the rings in a diy video I found online are brown. MST originally replied asking for vid or pic and that is what they sent them. Now waiting for a response after sending MST the pic.

I think they sent the pic like that to show how much play is in the rings. Making it difficult to install.

Makes sense

Yeah they should be snug tight

Trust me it will definitely be worth the wait

That is supposed to attach to the turbo

Like others have said, this coupler goes to the turbo first and by itself and you start and snug the nut to secure it to the turbo. Then the inlet pipe is finagled and fitted onto this.

And also the flange that holds the PCV to this inlet is orientated incorrectly when assembled by MST

The screw is in the wrong position and if not fixed the inlet will have to removed to fix that so it bolt into place correctly

Note it's easier to attach that PCV hose when the inlet is half way installed, Otherwise the setscrew is nearly impossible to get to without it falling on the ground

More shitty QC on MST's part

What we did was remove the PCV adapter piece, slide the inlet pipe into place, attach the PCV piece to the factory PCV hose by itself - this makes it super easy to clock it and bolt it down - and then slide the metal adapter into the inlet hose. It als seemed impossible to get the inlet pipe into place with that PCV adapter in it.
