Anybody have to replace the DCT yet?

One of the things I wondered about when I bought the car was how long the DCT lasts before needing some kind of service. I'm at 4 years 45K miles, and absolutely no issues so far. Has anybody run into wear issues yet?

And please don't turn this into a DCT vs manual thread, we have enough of those.

I'm guessing that there is a Service Interval on the Fluid and Filter (or equivalent).

One question is, does anyone know how much it would cost out of pocket to get the service done on the d
DCT?? Is it worth getting an extended warranty if past 4 years??

According to an old thread the F8X section, it's about $30,000 to replace a DCT (Dealer cost).

Oh, and beside any possible mechanical failure, the clutches can wear out and require replacement as a maintenance requirement.

Thats for an outright failure/replacement, do you have an idea on getting the fluids replaced, service done like mentioned above?

The oils/filter is supposedly "lifetime" according to BMW but here a makeshift maintenance kit that's available..

The DCT is closer to $10k.

Fluid, filters, pan, etc is a few hundred bucks. More if you have someone else do it: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1914005

M DCT is pretty solid, but the lifetime fluid thing from BMW shouldn't be followed. It's recommended to change the fluid and filters and the box at around 50-60k miles if keeping long term.

Actually this is what I was asking about. Specifically the clutches. Knew about the fluid service and will get that done.

Depends on if you go with a remanufactured DCT gearbox or a brand new unit, local tranny shop or franchise dealership; you are looking at between $10,000 up to the max of $30,000 for a complete replacement, depending how much the dealer wants to pad the bill.

The clutch pack alone list for about $3,000 but a new clutch replacement requires dealer-level computer learn-in.

However, with typical operation, minus any freak defects or excessive usage, according to BMW technical manual, a DCT gearbox should last the life of the vehicle without needing to be serviced or replaced. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

A clutch pack job is <$3-4k all in from a good BMW indy shop.

People act like the DCT is some mystical thing that can't be serviced, but they're pretty straightforward to work on. Lots of guys that track their cars or have DCT race cars have to tear into it at some point. My DCT thermostat went bad recently--$98 part.

A full DCT replacement from the dealer is $15k. No one pays $30k for full DCT replacement. If so, they're an idiot that needs to find a new dealer.

If you had a failure out of warranty you would just get a used one for 3-5k have an indi replace it.

If you can find a repair shop that's willing to replace a M DCT gearbox for under 5k, especially in this economic climate, then more power to you; you found yourself a unicorn repair facility.

I still say at a local Indy, you are paying at least 10k out the door.. Double that if it's a franchise dealership.

No issues.

I also had DCT on my prior F80 over 7 years and 65,000 km - no issues.

I had my DCT fluid changed at 50,000 miles per the recommendation of my dealer's service dept (I trust this service department as well). I do plan to keep mine for at least a few more years - so if you also plan to do so - then probably better to err on the side of changing vs not changing the DCT fluid.

The DCT is VERY reliable... i haven't heard of any people with any issues. This isn't an SMG.
