Jonny Lieberman's High Praise of the M2 CS
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com "This might be it!! Granted, I’ve only done a single drive in the BMW M2 CS, but... I’m having crazy thoughts! Chiefly, this might be the best driving BMW ever made. Like, ever. 444 horsepower means it’s fast. 0-60 times don’t matter when you’re in the canyons. 70-120 mph times do. This little thing just gets there in a hurry. And the suspension is SO GOOD. When you’re past the ton, lotsa cars, especially smaller ones, begin to feel sketchy. Or shaky. Not the M2 CS. Planted. However, that same suspension allows the car to rotate BEAUTIFULLY around corners. Masterful, actually. Killer, basically perfect brakes, too. And FIN. Such a fun car. I’m trying to think... maybe a Lotus Evora GT was as much fun? I found putting the engine in Sport Plus, the suspension and steering in Sport, the gearbox in S3 (I know the photo shows S2) to be the prize in the box. Also, turn everything off, because them Cup 2s is STICKY. I feel like I should be hedging my praise, but I’m so shocked and impressed and I just want to go on another drive!! What a great car! Things I don’t like? Burns through gas. Used half a tank from the Shell Station on Angeles Crest to @newcombs__ranch and back. I think a ZL1 Cramro does that. That’s about it. The internet will cry and rend its garments—why no manual lol!?—but the DCT is great. I’m sure the manual is good, too. Just haven’t driven it. Anyhow, WOW, and I’d like to see this up against a Porsche Carrera. Yeah, I said it." Pics:

It's like the AutoTopNL guy said "you drive this car, you want it". To everyone else, it's a really over priced M2C :

Yes but it's a Motor Trend show this time around. I just subscribed again thinking it was now showing but apparently it starts in US Spring. Argh.

Best BMW of all time...
I'm with him on Sports Plus engine and sports steering. Though still driving D2 and comfort on suspension (both settings I notice Henry Catchpole thinks are the car's sweet-spot). It will be good to try these higher settings and see if they sing. I'm increasingly impressed how this car seems to push the driver to max it in every dimension. Only 600 miles to go until I can rev out to redline. I suspect at that point this car will become legendary. It's already stunning at 5k. |

I am also using D2. It shifts exactly when I would myself, and I don't need to worry about accidentally exceeding 5500rpm. I am looking forward to playing with D3 more after break-in, but honestly expect to use S3 when really playing. Sport throttle, comfort steering and suspension, D2 are my everyday default, programmed into M1.

His "bargain" comment may give strokes to a few people on here given all the past arguments about the markup...
btw.. what platform are those stories coming off of?

Is it me, or is there a pedal missing there somewhere?

This was a great write up by Johnny. While I appreciate 3 pedals, these turbo motors are better suited to the DCT and this will likely be the last DCT available in an M car. Can’t go wrong either way.

Objectively I agree, DCT and the S55 are like a freight train that never stops. But I still had to have a manual
