Advice Needed: Anyone put 20 inch wheels on their M2?
Hi All,
Looking for some advice here. I may be able to get a really good deal on some 20 inch wheels, and am considering using them as my summer wheels and just using my stock wheels as the winter setup. Wanted to understand from those who have gone to a 20 inch setup, the experience you have had: 1) Was there a significant difference in the ride quality? 2) Was performance impacted noticeably (e.g. acceleration, handling, etc)? For better or worse 3) How hard was it to find good summer tires for the 20 inch wheels? Anything else I should consider? Is it worth going the 20 inch route if i am saving significant $$ or just stick to 19's? |

Hey M2USIST,
I'm running this setup .... 20x9 5x120 ET20 with 245/30 Michelin PS4S 20x10.5 5x120 ET42 with 275/30 Michelin PS4S I don't notice any difference in ride quality and I don't notice any difference in performance. PS4S is a great tire! |

I'm running 20X9.5 F, 20X10 R Vorsteiner VFF-107 and didn't notice a difference in ride quality. I had a set of Eibach sport kit springs installed and it does ride a little firmer but not to the point my wife said anything other than she was afraid to drive it because of how low it is compared to her Cayenne.....

I ran the 666m wheels with MPSS profiles at 30 and the ride was noticeably harsher. I didn't notice it much in the beginning since I swapped it when the weather was starting to cool in the fall, but went 513m during the winter and it was immediate. Went back to 437m on 255/275 afterwards.
Loved the wheels though, just from some angles they seemed too big for the m2. You have to see it in person though, at least that's my opinion. |

20" only makes sense for the look. So unless you're talking about some 8-10k worth finest wheel in the business, little chance do you have to look better than 437M on M2.
Reconsider.

To each their own, but I've never been a fan of 20" wheels on the M2. They just look slightly too big IMO, and I would be concerned with damaging the wheels on bumps and potholes.

Re: the original post, I wouldn't put 20s on our cars even if they were free; the ride quality degrades, and the potential for wheel damage (we live in the country, and potholes are a challenge even for my 'gravel' bicycle) increases. But, to each their own. And to think, in 1988, I was so happy to get my dad's 14" takeoff OEM Honda alloys to replace the 13" steel wheels that came standard on my '86 Accord LXi. How times have changed! After we get our M2C, I wonder if I might be shopping for a set of 18" OEM BMW takeoffs that would work... |

I just wanted 20's for my own aesthetic taste. I live in FL so weather is good year round and roads are also good. If I lived in MI or where roads/weather are bad I wouldn't have upsized.

jtcsifl, if your OEM wheels/tires are available for sale, we might be interested. It would be nice to have a spare setup, and then we can have a 'performance' set and an 'all season' set. Plus, my wife plans to take the class at the PC in South Carolina when our car comes back from ED, and after that, I wouldn't doubt she might want to do a track day here and there.
I wonder, would the whole set of wheels fit in the back of the M2? If you're in northern FL, we could swing by. Just a thought... Last edited by BOhio; 07-24-2018 at 04:31 PM.. Reason: corrected post to pertain to the Forum member it was meant for |
