M2C @ Caffeine & Carbs, Waveny Park, CT

Hey guys,

Got to check out the new M2 Competition in Hockenheim Silver. According to the announcer there, it's the first production model in the US. We asked the BMW employees to start it up and give us some rev's. Really didn't sound that good in person, but I might be biased since I prefer the N55 more.

As an existing m2 owner, its not even the sound but the extra weight that’s the killer on the m2c.

My Alfa guilia weighs less than the equivalent 3 series and it really shows in the handling and steering feedback.

Can’t wait to see the reviews on the M2c, I’m hoping they will be good so I know what to replace my M2 with when the time comes.

Same, the front end is a real let down compared to the original M2. In person, it looks very flat and rounded out, much like the new M5. But the exhaust note is ear piercing when standing close. An aftermarket solution is definitely recommended.

Can’t say that I am a fan of the M2C. The front grill and the poor sound really turn me off. I am glad I have an M2 LCI.

There is no sugar-coating the sound coming out of that car.

To all the M2 Competition future owners. I envy you a bit as the performance figures with this car (especially with a simple ECU tune to 500hp) will be amazing and if you'll track this car it will probably be amazing too. But you can't deny that it sounds shit. Absolute shit. I hope to see some improvements from aftermarket exhausts but oh my god... stock exhaust is horrible.

Posted this in another thread but I'm just sharing it here, too.

Agreed with everyone on the sound, but I think the S55 sounds much better with a simple midpipe. Check out this F80 M3 with an Active Autowerke midpipe and an otherwise stock exhaust. I know this is an M3, but I'm hopeful that we can get something similar for the M2C.

I think it sounds much, much better than the raspy lawnmower stock S55 sound. According to Active Autowerke's dyno, it also added 18 WHP and 30 LB FT of torque and shaved off a few pounds. I think part of the gain is because M3 and M4 S55 applications have secondary cats (AFTER the O2 sensor, so no CEL issue ) that the midpipe eliminates. I'm assuming the M2C will have the same.

You can probably have a custom muffler shop make something similar if you want to save some money, too.

Seems like the perfect first mod because it checks off multiple boxes: Add 18 horsepower/30 lb-ft, make the car sound great, and lose a few pounds.

Anyone else think the M2/M2C design team forgot about the sides and rear of the car?

The front looks fantastic but I'm looking at the sides and the rear of the car, and they leave me thinking: "That's it?"

I actually like the M2C, but the sound is......ewww...

That color also isn't doing the car any favors. Ultimately, I don't think us LCI owners are missing out on much. I can always by the M mirrors and seats if I really wanted to, but I have zero desire to modify my car.

The 2nd pick. Might be just the angle, is the front sleeker?

As discussed with the guys here in CZ...

The car has many issues!

Colour -> Wrap it
Exhaust -> Replace it
Carbon roof -> Have it done at someone you can trust.

But isn't this also the charm of having a car. Mine never stay stock and I like this process. I just look forward having my roof being cut out, since I have never done it. It might sound stupid, but it is a bit of a challenge for me to find the rigiht kind of company doing it for me, and I would have done it with a RKP or Edison roof anyhow (and I will if BMW asks 5K for the freaking roof).

Surely won't diss the car..BMW had to do make the subtle changes to distinquish it further. Am so pleased with our M2, mods and color choices, that the extra horses and weight just make it viable for cost.

Sound? That can be changed--did on my M2.

Not sure though I would be able to keep looking at the new grill design that just says KIA coming down the road...or in the garage when I walk around to get in.

I'm with you guys, not a fan of the front end or the sound. But an exhaust would make the sound improve, and I think a different color might help that front end out a little bit. Neither of these are deal breakers for me though, I'm envious of the improved performance and potential of the S55. That said, I'm very happy with my car. Enough that I don't feel the time and extra cost is worth swapping my car for an M2C. And to be honest, the N55 powered M2 is still very quick.

Those wheel are hideous. I have noticed recently that a lot more M2C press cars are featuring either the 437m or the 763m wheels. Maybe BMW has realized they have made a wheel that looks like a discount winter wheel.

Couldn't disagree more about the exhaust. People who replace the OEM exhaust on their S55s and insist it sounds better are hilarious. I have a few M4s in my neighbourhood with catback/axleback exhaust and they sound like trash. I swear they make it worse. The only tolerable one is the M Performance.

The more I see Hock. silver, the less it looks like silver. Maybe I need to see it in person. But in pictures, I am not a fan.

Oh my. I watched this twice just to make sure I wasn't being too judgmental. There's no getting around it, the M2C just sounds terrible on this recording. Perhaps (hopefully) a little better in real life? I consider the OG M2 to have a decent stock sound, which, IMHO, jumps to freaking insane with the right exhaust mods. This one's gonna need a LOT of work to get to that point!
