Rear fog light on M2

With the last 5 BMW's I've had the car come with the rear fog feature already wired but the US cars lack the switch in the cabin.

Usually we were able to swap the headlight module for a European one and presto.

Does anyone have info on this for the F87. I suspect it's the same situation.

My understanding is that this went away on the F series cars. BMW prewiring for things has gone the way of the dodo.

I have a '16 F80 and coded in my rear fogs. Quick modification of the switch and coding was all it needed

I purchased the euro switch. Car is pre-wired for it. Works perfectly.

Here's photo proof of the switch on my Canadian MY16. If I have it, then the US one will be prewired for it.

EDIT: I realize now it's impossible to really tell, but it is there lol

Did you have to code in addition to switch?

It does need coding to activate. I can't supply a pic as my car is in for Dinan Stage 4 installation, but I'll see if I can provide a part number.

I used esys. This coding might be too advanced for Carly(which I have also).

I had mine coded on but I didn't need a switch. The lower "vacant" button next to the light control actually works.

Yep. It's so freaking weird, my Canadian car has it already coded. But then again, I also have dimming mirrors on both sides....maybe my car is a freak?

Just spent 10 minutes popping out and scraping off the three little stops on the headlight switch modular blank button for the rear fogs on my USA 2018 LCI, then coded it. Wala I now have rear fogs. Did it when I had my 2015 3 series also. As noted here and in other threads no need to replace the switch module or even pop the whole modular out of the dash. Just use a thin blade and pop the switch button out from the front. Easy to do

Do you usually use this to fuck with tailgaters?

I had not thought of that but reading the thread again plan to use it that way also. Tired of pickups and SUV drivers thinking they are nascar drivers drafting you.

Some years ago had a pickup about 10 feet behind my 535 at 75 mph on interstate with cement barriers on each side. Tapped the brakes briefly and he locked his brakes on the big ass truck. He lost it and ended up doing a 720 spin tagging each corner of his truck twice against the cement barriers. Suspect he does not tailgate anymore. I'm sure he had some 'splainin to do to his wife

Most people seem to operate in nothing is my fault mode so his explaining was probably something like "This madman slammed on his brakes in front of me FOR NO REASON! what a maniac!"

Unfortunately that is probably the case. But he had a pretty scraped up truck to remind him of his silliness. I should have just quickly moved aside but man it gets old with big vehicles tailgating.

Were you in the left lane? Cars would come behind you in the left lane not at 75mph but at 175mph in Europe, left lane is is strictly for flying and passing lol , i dont think break checking him was the right thing to do
