Heated Steering Wheel
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com A new steer wheel replacement was ordered but it does not seem appear to be working either.. The LED light on the front side of the button does not illuminate but the display in dash say that heated steering has been activated when button is pressed. Dealership says that only a very small section heats up in the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated... |

As I recall, it's throughout the whole wheel. It heats up faster and hotter than my 2012 3-series (Alcantara vs. leather). There is a message in the display when activated and turned off.

If the light doesn't turn on, I suspect it is not working. I'll check mine in a few hours.

Yeah the whole wheel heats up. I think the heater elements are at the 3 and 9 position since I notice those getting hot first and then that heat radiates to the rest of the wheel.

I'll clarify a bit, even though this is probably obvious... all of the leather on the wheel heats up, but the plastic bits remain freezing!
I'm actually surprised at how much I've ended up loving this feature. I've stopped wearing gloves, even when I first start the car. Don't know what it is, but the warm leather just feels nice. I just keep my fingertips off the back of it until the plastic warms up naturally. #sissy |

Anyway, to confirm the button does light up the entire wheel does get hot (or toasty warm) And if your button is not lighting up, something is wrong. and.. no, my 1M does not have a heated steering wheel - so I only drive it in the summer

Definitely a good feature to have in cold climates, it's more for those first 5 minutes before the car really warms up. Then again if the car doesn't have it or if the feature doesn't work, you can always throw on a pair of leather racing gloves, pop in some 80's synthwave music and pretend like your Ryan gosling in the movie drive. Now if they could add a heated shifter, I could really get nice and toasty.

I am pretty sure the entire steering wheel heats up (the entire ring, not the center hub). I'll check tomorrow.
The heated seats get quite hot...and the coverage on the seats is pretty good too. Mike

I'm actually missing my heated steering wheel as I've changed to the M-Perf leather/alcantara w/ dry carbon fiber steering wheel. The new MPerf steering wheel is actually one of my favorites and I enjoy holding it and it really does make a huge difference while driving because of the perceived thickness on the alcantara portion. It really is amazing.
Just sucks that it's winter now and can't heat it up lol. Although the button does still light up to heat the steering wheel and it does say it on the dash I've never actually pressed it and left it on to see what happens I figured since it's known to be a function that doesn't work with it not to leave it on just encase a something in their gets burnt out idk. If anyone knows that would be great. I'd assume they would disable the function at bmw where they installed it since you can't use it. But not the case. Anyways it is a great feature and wish I had it on my new wheel but you can't have both and to me the M-perf wheel I have was well worth both the money and the loss of the feature. I know many disagree but when you're in the car 2-3 hours a day and you hold the steering wheel the whole time. Trust me you feel a difference 🙌👊 |
