You know what? I'll leave it to the M division to decide what's a real M car and what isn't! My son suggested "REAL M" as a license plate, and I wasn't going to go there! |

I saw a nice M235 yesterday on the way home. Then I noticed the 235 was removed. WHY??? Accept what you have. I think that he was embarrassed when I pulled up next to him, didn't even look over. Once I passed him I never saw him again

So he removed the entire 235 and left the ///M? Doesn't sound like he was trying to fake an M2; perhaps he just doesn't like the full badge? I'm a minimalist and have considered removing by M2 badge (haven't done it yet), so I get it.

I don't think that he was trying to fool anyone into thinking that he was driving a real M2. But if you are going for a minimalist look, just remove everything.

I was contemplating the M235, M240 and M2 before ending up with the M2. I sort of knew all along that the M2 was the car I really wanted even though I'm sure the 240 has a great engine on it.
But you can't compensate with a tune or a badge the physical precense of the M2. The wider body makes it look soo much better/aggressive and I knew I would regret not buying it. I don't "look down" on the other BMWs but I think it's ridiculous putting fake badges on them or spending so much money on tuning and exterior mods that they could just as well have bought a higher end car in the end. Well whatever, I'm really happy with my car and drive it with joy every time. |

I don't get why people do that. Its not like an M235i or 240 are Hyundais, but I also feel like BMW made it awkward by putting the M in the name to begin with.
They should have just called it the 235is or something. I always have to correct people when they call it an M2 or something. I am even hesitant calling an M235i, usually just say a 235.

I took off the '235i' badge also, and I'm not a poseur.. I was going to de-badge all of it but I liked the look of the M badge that came from the factory....
When people say "nice M2" I always correct them but they get confused like I'm speaking Arabic or something.. Maybe you guys should reserve judgement before getting all the facts and don't get so hung up on badges.. And no, I don't wish I had an M2, the Twin-Turbo six-speed Competition, very jelly! I cannot believe that this thread has gone on for 3 pages.
So what that someone wants to feel like they have an M2 when they really just have an m235i. Big deal. Maybe he got an M235i before the M2 was announced, maybe he likes the way the M2 looks in the back but does not like the way it drives, maybe he just wishes he had an M2 instead. I'm sure some of you here would've modified your cars to go faster than it goes stock or looks better than stock. I understand that it's not the same but one could argue that you should've just bought a better stock car instead of putting better parts on what is deemed an inferior car. I personally have kept the cars I've owned completely stock but would really not ridicule or look down upon others who do things differently. Also, the price of a fully loaded M240i is pretty close to an M2 so there's really not as big a gulf in class as some of you think there is. Post Edit: Even the comments about Hondas and Toyota's, I know people who own Porsches as well as Toyotas. One of our VPs who makes over a couple million a year drives a 2002 Toyota Corolla. It's just a car. No need to judge a person or his worth based on what he drives. |

I was driving out of San Francisco today and saw a newer black 3 series. He removed the original badging and put an ///M logo on it. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture.

Unless you live in the bay area, where even a burnt down fire damaged shack costs in excess of $1m!

These owners should be made to make the "walk of atonement" at a local BMW meeting.
Shame! Shame! Shame! Shame! Shame!

It's not a person's worth thats being judged; its his integrity, and emotional stability that's in question. At a time when a man expects to be viewed as female because he 'identifes' as female, I suppose its not unreasonable that someone with an M235i can 'identify' as an M2 owner, and label it accordingly. Facts dont seem to mean much anymore.

Here's the opposite: private joke by a Belgian M2 owner. No Photoshop. He's still driving around with it.
