I am sure the marketing department is really excited... they would have another " first ever" model to announce.
The " first ever " M2 competition !!! The " first ever " M2 CS!!! The " first ever " M2 CSL!!! I am sure we will next hear BMW press reports of exactly how many " first ever " vehicles they will have launched in 2018 and 2019.. |

I really don't see the point of building an M2 CSL/GTS or any other more expensive BMW M2.
Why? The M4 GTS was also to expensive for a BMW and people rather buy porsche GT3 for the same sort of money! If you look on the internet many GTS are standing around at the dealer. On Mobile.de you can find lots of BMW GTS cars. Just too expensive to use as a trackday car and with so many standing around it's no collectors car also. The same will happen with M2 CSL/GTS if porsche comes with the new GT4. For the same money most people will buy the new porsche GT4. M2 CSL will be too expensive to build and will go to M4 GTS prizes and standing unsold around at dealers. And now with all the performance parts available you can build your own M2 CSL The choice that BMW made the performance carbon parts available i think the M2 CSL will not happen anymore. I think it's a good choice to do it this way. I also rather buy an M2 and build my own than pay extreme premium for a M2 CSL or GTS which is for most also a car you won't run on track anymore because it's too expensive to take the risk with it! BMW just needs to offer a good base car from you can you start to build your own fun/track car. And with the M2 they did just that and it's perfect! Last edited by Advevo; 06-21-2018 at 05:31 AM.. |

I agree an M2 CSL will probably be about $100K and too expensive for what the car is. What new Porsche do you think would be better at that price range? Looking for a PDK equipped Porsche.

If the price of an M2 CS is $90K, I think I will be all over it. $100K or more, probably not.

Interesting. Is there every any history of production variants spinning off from these? M235i racing for example didn't yield anything at all.
If this is the case maybe the end of the line in near. Haha, nope there will be more variants, expecially with a few years to go.....just depends if these are special paint and cosmetic variants or genuine upgrades. M2 5 Jahre Edition?

BMW made an entire race series from this car.. and now models have been adapted for racing in series like the Pirelli World Challenge... it seems like the M235 racing is getting old though... https://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/17/...icial-details/ it was first announced in 2013.. so maybe an M2 racing will be next... ? the cars have to be nearing the end of the time that they can be in that series.. http://www.motorsportsdevelopmentgro...challenge.html " Homologation of Vehicles: In addition to the general series rules that apply to all homologated vehicles, each vehicle model that is homologated into the Pirelli World Challenge Series has a set of specifications assigned to it on a Vehicle Technical Specification sheet (VTS) in order to give equivalent overall performance capabilities to a wide range of vehicles. Adjustments to a vehicle's VTS sheet will be made until a competitive package is developed. Vehicles may be submitted for homologation up to a year before it goes on general sale to the public, and until that particular body style goes out of production throughout the world " Eligibility: Cars that have been homologated for competition in the Pirelli World Challenge Series are eligible for a full-year of competition from the time it is homologated, until that particular body style has been out of production throughout the world for four (4) years. After a body style has been out of production for four (4) years, it may continue to compete in no more than five (5) races total with a single driver, for an additional three (3) years " Seems to me that the M235 is no longer available.. the BMW M240 came out in the 2017 model year.. That would start a 4 year time clock beginning with whenever the last production M235 was made.. .. and the maximum any car can be run in the series is 7 years after it is no longer available for sale. Quote:
SO... if the M235 ended production in say.. May 2016.. counting forward . 2017.. 2018.. 2019.. eligibility for Pirelli World Challenge would end Calendar Year 2020... That matches up with the info we have seen on a possible M2 racing.. and of course.. any model that comes out for homologation would have to be actually produced within a calendar year... so a homologation could NOT be done on a standard M2.. it would have to be based on either the M2 competition or an all new model like an M240 racing or M2 (Comp) racing... Producing a model in the final calendar year of the model run would allow the M2 racing to be run in Pirelli World Challenge well into the early 2020s. Edit. M3 CS production ends this summer 2018. M4 CS production will end no later than 06/19 (a full year before the scheduled EOP for the standard M4). Sure leaves a nice opportunity for an M2 CSL to lead the way .. CAR magazine UK has just published their review of the M2 Competition, the final line reads:
'It's a sure-fire future classic (unless you want to hold on for the two-seat M2 GTS in the works, of course).' |

GTS is the proper name. I don't see how they can honestly look in the mirror and use the word CSL on an M2, but ///Marketing will happen.
