Yes, you should upgrade the intercooler.

VRSF offers a good intercooler with a high-density core.

I also recommend you check out MAD/BMS, they offer high-density intercoolers as well, for a better price and support in my opinion.

I'm unfamiliar with MHD, but the stock intercooler can barely handle stock boost. I highly doubt it can handle a stage 2 map.

You can examine the 3rd and 4th gear datalog. If the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) increases significantly, causing a drop in timing, you must replace the intercooler.

They made revisions to the maps recently. Adding HPFP maps and etc..They likely went less aggressive on the standard stage 2 and moved some of that into the stage 2+ and hpfp maps....I ran catted downpipe and stock intercooler on stage 2 and stage 2+ for a bit and the only issue was my HPFP couldn't keep up at all times. Would see occasional dips in pressure.

Keep in mind I did this around late winter/early spring so the ambient temps were below 70

Currently running the vrsf 5" and fitment was perfect.....Running about 10deg above ambient while moving, does rise significantly while idling/going slow. Cruising above 35 and it drops back down to 10 over ambient...

Right and I just tuned mine last week. The revisions were made for stage 2+ so if I do end up going there I understand FMIC is for sure necessary and a few others

Stage 2 is basically a Stage 1, Stage 2 plus is more on line with BM3 stage 2.

The VRSF, BMS, and MAD 5” are pretty much the same and should perform similarly, get the best deal. I would just wrap the charge pipe in gold reflective tape for additional IAT reduction.

Currently stage 2 MHD on my F87 M2

Best FMIC / Chargepipe?

I’m thinking ARM motorsports FMIC and charpipe, but am unsure of the fitment of the ARM FMIC. Thoughts? Also when I install the chargepipe and FMIC, do I need to upgrade the boost pipe and inlet?

Thanks in advance

From what I know for stage 2 all you need is a FMIC, a charge pipe, and a high flow downpipe and you’re solid.

Nothing wrong with doing extra though to reduce the risk of failure and the ability to capitalize the full capability of the car 👍🏾

Gotcha yeah. I just need to see some first hand opinions on the fitment of the ARM FMIC. Heard it’s great performance wise but fitment can be tough and I wanna know for sure

It’s aluminum. The FMIC was a super easy fit too.

Just running BM3 stage 1 91 octane. I live in California so I’m trying to stay compliant by not running a aftermarket DP.

As for the lag don’t really feel it with this car. This car feels always felt very much like an NA car to me. What I did notice with the FMIC is that there is a lot less power loss towards the top end.

If you want to help with turbo lag, try changing out your DV. Turbo smart has a pretty solid one. The stock DV is known for turbo leak.

Yeah just trying to do that without it. I think VRSF 5” will have little lag

Anyone here buy ARM motorsports FMIC?

https://www.armmotorsports.com/colle...RoCqjUQAvD_BwE

Reading through it says the core is 36% larger core than OEM so I assume that’ll help with cooling and have little lag hopefully?

No intercooler for this platform should have any turbo lag.
More frontal area cools better, so the ARM would do better than something like the VRSF 5” - but you may have to take off the bumper to make it fit.

The ARM core is bigger than other 5" alternatives, but it's important to note that it has a single-core design. The 5" options you're comparing it to (MAD/BMS) feature dual-core designs, which are theoretically more efficient and provide greater cooling coverage.

Regardless of your option, both should meet your needs without causing any noticeable lag.

with the factory turbo, you aren’t going to experience noticeable lag…Quit worrying so much about it..IF you’re mot tracking the car or doing tons of back to back pulls…Vrsf 5” or similar will suit you

Race intercoolers will require removal of bumper/etc…Smaller ones will be direct fit and be gtg. Its like $350 and you can install it yourself..not that difficult…watch a youtube vid…

Yeah haha I know just trying to triple check, but I ordered the ARM Motorsports so 🤷🏽‍♂️
But I do have a question, the VRSF is 5” but I can’t find that on the ARM one
