MY2017 wifi hotspot
I just picked up my 2017 M2 and I can't figure out how to setup the wifi hotspot. I am able to connect I just not getting any data. Am I doing something wrong?
Edit 08/29/16: 1. So I hit the sos button as MrOhnoez stated below. Asked for the phone number for my car. 2. Went on a device that is connected to hotspot but was taking too long to load so I called 866-595-1222. 3. Told the att rep that I'm trying to setup my free 3 months of data for the first time. Att rep told me to go to myvehicle.att.com and if I had waited long enough I would have seen it loaded on my iPod in the car. 4. Went to myvehicle.att.com and begin the setup process. In reality all you need to do is hit the SOS button get the phone number and then go to myvehicle.att.com Received what seems to be a legitimate answer to my question today, will try in the morning: MrOhnoez Quote:

I can't get the Internet in my '16 to work. I'll be calling the connected drive people when I get home from work

Do you have a direct number for them? Not having a problem with internet from the car, but I'm having trouble getting an account created for the BMW Remote app....

I got you man
Ok step 1 you need to set up an AT&T account using the Vehicles phone number (it can retrieved easily by pressing the SOS button and asking what the vehicle phone number is) Step 2 log on with a device on the internet and go to BMW USA and itll force you into a special webpage to fill out Use your new AT&T info to fill it out then youll have the 3 gigs or 3 months free BE CAUTIOUS 3 gigs is NOTHING you can burn through that very quickly Once thr trial period is up then next time you log onto it itll force you into a page that allows you to sign up for a data plan Just call this number if you have questions these guys are our resource when we set up a customers Wifi 1866-595-1222 If you have questions just message me |

Good info on this thread, I was wondering about that Hot Spot feature. This means one could call ATT and add the car phone number as a Device on a shared plan perhaps?
OP hafe a safe drive and enjoy! |

Can I just add the car to my family share plan? If so, I wonder the cost. A phone is $40/month but a tablet is $10/month. You would think a car would be more like a tablet since there are no phone calls. If it even works this way.

That is what I was thinking. It would be like adding another "device" like a tablet to your existing plan which is usually 10 bucks a month.

This seems like a feature about 5 years late. With the ability to hotspot off of a smart phone or iPad I doubt I will use it. I guess its nice to have but if I have to deal with ATT its not worth it for me. Just switched over to Verizon.
OP Congrats on the new car, looking forward to mine in about 6 weeks. |

If you have the WiFi hotspot, you should have Apple Carplay too, right?
If so and you have an iPhone, can you tell me whether or not you can use Carplay wirelessly? (Go to Settings > General > Carplay to set it up) |

Apple Carplay is a separate option. From what I can tell after lots of research Carplay only works when plugged in to USB. Doesn't work wirelessly, at least in its current version.

I want to figure out how to add Apple CarPlay because it wasn't an option for July build only august onwards.
iDrive 5.0 is waaaaaay better than what I had in my f30 335i!!!

Love the look of the M2, by the way. I ordered LBB but there's a little part of me that thinks I should have gone black. It seems 80% of the Bimmers I see are black but for good reason, they look really sweet.

MY2017 Started in July which is what I got. CarPlay didn't start until august build. I tried to wait on CarPlay so when I asked my CA can he wait until august he responded with he could give someone my allocation and I can wait until next year. So I was like nah I will figure out CarPlay later even if I have to code it.

I'm crossing my fingers for wireless Carplay support. I'm hoping to make Android phones compatible with it. |
