My Build Thread - @DTMpower98

Over two years into my ownership of my car and I'm just now getting this all put together. Will be adding the "build" stages and the changes to the car in separate updates when I have more time.

Lets start from the beginning.

I've always had an interest in cars and machines of all sorts, but I'll never forget the first time I watched an E92 M3 ripping on Mulholland "snake" when I was around 13 with my dad on a busy weekend there. If you know this road well, you know how it used to get. I think that's part of what piqued my interest in M cars.

Car history-
12/2014 -2004 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works -had some Dinan mods done to it, found it on Craigslist for a steal and learned how to operate a car with a manual transmission. Was the factory Supercharged Mini, made some pretty cool noises haha. This was the car I actually learned to DRIVE on, spinning out running the snake once or twice taught me quickly. Ended up getting rid of it less than six weeks after getting it which was a great call at the time.

02/2015
2012 Mustang Shelby GTS
One of the more interesting ones I've had, was a showroom car offered used at the time for a fair price. I think I just liked how it looked, and the mustang driver stereotype didn't exist yet. The car was basically gone through from Shelby american as a limited model with suspension and torsion reinforcement, interior details, lightweight hood, brake upgrade kit, exhaust, front/rear bumpers etc. Powered by the V6 engine (I know) it was offered with or without a Procharger blower as it was an expensive option. Mine was equipped with everything but the blower, so I ended up adding it. The car ended up making almost 500whp on 91. I told my mom it was just an intake yet my dad thought it was pretty cool.

02/2016 - Car #3 - 2016 Subaru WRX STi
The most stereotypically correct one at 17. The one I learned how to keep manners with police in. Didnt go too far with the mods, just lowered it on some springs and loudened it up a bit because nobody keeps the exhaust stock on those. I ended up putting it back to stock after getting a CA state ref on my way to school haha.

A few months after getting into the Subaru, I got my dad into a 2016 F80 M3 in the notorious Yas Marina blue. He's not as into cars as I am but ended up loving it. Around this time I was working at my first real job at a local BMW dealer as a product knowledge specialist ("BMW Genius") while obtaining work experience credits finishing high school. Great experience working there, but ended up having to sell my Miata track build in progress once my school/work started stacking up. This was when I sold both the Miata and Subaru in search of something different eventually. Long story short, I was granted permission to take care of the M3 for a bit and put some miles on it.

Loved the M2 since it first came out because of the "new E46 M3" characteristics it has and the sound. First saw one locally and reached out to the driver (I dont even remember how I found his page) and ended up meeting to take photos and check out the car. Alex Kover310 years later is one of my good friends and we drive often.

06/2017 - Fast forward a year later, some convincing, and saving while working on my part, and I fortunately obtained an allocation for the first LCI 2018 M2 inbound to a local dealer. I think it took around 100 days in total from placing the order to picking up the car. If you ordered your car, you know this feeling lol.

10/2017 - Delivery Day of my 2018 BMW M2

I ended up optioning my car with:
Mineral Grey Metallic paint
Black leather w/blue stitching interior
Manual transmission (6MT)
Executive Package

As noted at the top of the thread, modifications and changes to the car that have happened will be updated below.

Back to stock life, quick shot of the car left in an open area during evacuation for the SoCal fires in November 2018.

Update 4:

Lowered back down with the Lightweight performance front splitter and Autoid "CS" trunk lip fitted in preparation for the new wheels.

Update 5:

This is where things went awry for a minute. I had come across the M235ir 18" BBS motorsport wheel as a potential option. This had never been fitted before on an M2. As my distributor was pretty certain they'd fit, we went forward and ordered them. Long story short, they looked great but unfortunately did not clear the brakes functionally. See attached for test fit:

Update 6:

With days to spare before heading out to Monterey car week, we moved towards a solution. We decided to go with the BBS Motorsport RI-A in an 18x9.5 square on 265x35x18 Michelin pilot sport 4s'.

Not anything noticeable. This is the best splitter for the M2 in my opinion. It's nearly indestructible. I can have the car lowered down for looks and not have to worry about touching down on things and breaking a splitter when I'm enjoying driving.
